ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From the era of Jane Austen's novels to the post-Napoleonic world, dashing men and graceful women found fun and delight in the lively dances of the day. You can, too! "Lady Caroline's Regency Romp: Dance Music of the Early 19th Century" transports you to the early 19th century ballroom: 4 country dances, 5 mazurkas, 14 quadrille tunes, and 3 waltzes, all from 1800-1830. This recording contains some well-known tunes, including Duke of Kent's Waltz and Money Musk, along with others -- particularly the mazurkas -- which are scarce or almost impossible to find elsewhere. Violin, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, and piano make up the instrumental ensemble.

Richard Powers, social dance historian at Stanford University, wrote of "Lady Caroline's Regency Romp," "This collection is a double treat -- important dance music which has never been recorded, and it's beautiful played, a joy to listen to."

Lexington Vintage Dance, producer of this CD, specializes in historic ballroom dance (1800-1930) and dance music.
