ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Concepts album has it's core in Matteo Liberatore and Jerry DeVore. They met at New York University in 2008 and have been performing and playing together ever since.
The duo soon understood they had the same ideas about the music. Both musicians have many experiences through various genres, not only in the jazz world. They have a clear idea about music: the boundaries should be loose. The initial listening of thier first album makes this concept clear.
Matteo's original compositions are little portraits, not just "head, solos, head." They always improvise together, you can't really tell who's accompanying. They always switch roles, and change points of view.
They stretch the concepts of improvisation and form, and play "standards" as if they were playing their own tunes. When you hear Autumn Leaves from their latest recording, Liberatore and DeVore perform as if they wrote the standard.
Matteo likes playing unconventional chords, big intervals, and at the other side exploring the semitone and expanding it. He lives in spaces and often displaces the rhythm. Jerry has a natural talent to interpret what he hears in the right way. He is not just a walking bass player, he has a sense of melody and phrasing which is rare to find. They have their own sound together, original and refined.
Their goal is finding something new in the music everytime, creating something that is original and only theirs.
