ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
New CD Release- Shelton: A Thousand Curses Upon Love
Vocals- Jennifer Licko (Shelton)

"As a world traveler and multi-instrumentalist, Jennifer develops a truly kaleidoscopic attitude to musical composition, making for exciting and personal performances with a credible and spontaneous energy: it's all about bridging the gaps between culture and emotion! Culture is actually such an important part in Jennifer's life that she set out to collaborate on many school programs focused on the importance of cultural diversity." - Celtic Music Radio

"Jennifer Licko could very well be the heir-apparent to Canada’s Loreena McKennitt and Clannad’s Maire Brennan"
- Celtic Life Magazine

Musician Jennifer Licko has released her fifth EP and she is bringing forth her middle name, Shelton, in the process. On this self-titled CD, Shelton's arrangements of Celtic melodies and lyrics transcend traditional Celtic instrumentation. She shares her expressive interpretation of songs she collected while living in Scotland and then Ireland.

Shelton's version of Celtic music is sure to leaving you longing for more as you enjoy music by some of our best Celtic songwriters such as Dougie MacLean (Scotland), Jimmy MacCarthy (Ireland) and John Spillane (Ireland).

Producer Bob Noble, who has been working with Jennifer since her first EP in 2000, is the mastermind behind this release. He has employed elements in the music that create the style of ‘easy listening’ rather than ‘Celtic’. With renown musicians of diverse styles such as Charlie Morgan (former drummer for Elton John), Bobby O’Donovan (former fiddle/mandolin player of the Irish Rovers), Eamonn Dillon (All-Ireland Champion uillean piper), Kevin Lysen (guitar) and Sha Zhang (classical violinist); the music alone is remarkable.

About Shelton: Shelton has performed all over the US, Ireland, UK, Caribbean, Canada, Brazil and western continental Europe. Her talent was recently rewarded with a CAMMY nomination as 'best new female artist' (2004) and she gained the slot in a performance with Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas in the 2004 show of Rhythms of Scotland; the same talent and hard work achieved her the honor of ‘100 incredible East Carolina University women’ for her alumni’s centennial celebration. With regular US tours scheduled, she now resides in Brazil where she is continuing her studies in world music.

About the Producer: Noble, an English keyboard player, arranger, and producer is best known for his work on albums and tours with Judie Tzuke, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Joan Armatrading, Cliff Richard, Bob Geldof, Tanita Tikaram, and Murray Head, as well as sessions for Whitney Houston, Sheena Easton, Elaine Paige, and numerous others. Noble has more than 200 published songs and currently writes and produces music for TV, radio, and advertisements in his own studio.

About the title track: The CD subtitle: A Thousand Curses Upon Love is the translation of the Scottish Gaelic song 'Mile Marphbhaisg Air A’Ghaol'; nominated by Celtic music radio as 'traditional song of the year' in 2014 . The track is a traditional ‘waulking’ song from the West Highlands of Scotland. Women who worked with tweed would sing during the process. The strong beat is the most important feature in a typical ‘waulking’ song and kept in tact for this arrangement. The mix of modern sounds and traditional instrumentation, on fiddle and bodhran, updated this piece for a modern mix. Your feet will be tapping!
