ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Vocalist Lila Ammons’s new CD release, GENEALOGY, is a celebration of jazz heritage. She and producer, Jeff Bailey, have compiled and arranged a collection of jazz gems spanning several styles within the genre. From barrelhouse boogie woogie to swing, hard bop to hints of hip hop, Afro-Caribbean to Brazilian rhythms GENEALOGY explores it. Ammons also honors her family legacy with an arrangement of “Canadian Sunset” (recorded by uncle Gene Ammons) and with her barrel house rendition of “Blues, You’re The Mother Of Sin” (in homage to grandfather, Albert Ammons). With compositions by Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Billy Eckstine, Eddie Heywood and contemporary songwriter, Bill Cantos, Ammons takes you on a trip with some exciting turns.

A singer with wide range and experience (opera, classic blues and boogie woogie, and jazz), Ammons’s vocal style reflects all of her musical expressions. With GENEALOGY, she honors the past and the present and continues to follow the path of jazz into its future.
