ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In the new single, “Stand Up Proud! An Anthem 4 Freedom,” Broadway Powerhouse, Tony and Emmy Award Winner Lillias White reminds us that “it takes guts to be free.”

Composed by the Emmy Award-Winning “Bluestone Sisters” (Gail and Eileen), the song is the official anthem for The Mill's first annual 4 Freedoms Festival ℠ in Southern Vermont.

Ms. White’s electrifying vocals are a call to arms to protect 4 basic human rights. Of course, there’s a great piece of history that inspired the song that most folks don’t know :

In his 1941 State of the Union Address, President Roosevelt outlined 4 essential human rights: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. That December, the U.S. entered World War II. The beloved artist, Norman Rockwell, decided to paint Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 4 Freedoms as War Posters, using his Vermont neighbors as models. The War Department wasn’t interested. Luckily, The Saturday Evening Post was - and published them in 1943. The images were a hit! Meanwhile, casualties mounted on the Western Front, and the Treasury was broke. Forever the patriot, Rockwell toured the U.S. with his 4 Freedoms to sell war bonds and raised almost $133,000,000 (equivalent of almost 2 billion dollars, today) which helped win the war.

Roosevelt articulated them, and Rockwell painted them. Now, seventy-five years later, Lillias White’s soaring, musical interpretation of the 4 Freedoms offers a soul-wrenching tribute to every hero worldwide who stands up proud to preserve freedom.
