ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Linda's voice is spell-binding with it's pure sound and bell-like clarity. Her voice has a way of mesmerizing a crowd, whether it is a small coffee house venue or a festival packed with hundreds of people.

Linda started playing music about a decade ago, being drawn into the bluegrass music scene. She has played in several bands, trying her hand at various music styles from bluegrass and old-time music to novelty jazz.

In her debut release, "In the Corner", Linda culls from a wide variety of musical influences to put together a recording of stunning beauty and candor. A mix of Linda's original songs and favorite cover songs, Linda felt drawn to each song, either from the beauty of the melody, the power in the lyrics, or both of these things.

"Hicks performs with taste and ability. Not only can she write, but she also knows how to choose excellent songs and deliver them with sensitivity and conviction." - Rich Warren, Sing Out! magazine

Along with her solo performances, Linda performs with two bands local to the area where she lives. The Vagaband is a four member group performing traditional, old-time and folk music. Deep and Simple consists of three members and performs music with a modern folk feel, many of the songs having been written by the group's members.

Pure voice, pure folk, pure fun!
From the rousing, fully produced Woody Guthrie opener, Dance a Little Longer, to the hauntingly sparse closer, The Wood Thrush’s Song, Linda Hicks and producer Michael Lewis have expertly crafted a tastefully artistic album with “In the Corner.” Although everything about this compact disc is as close to perfection as humanly possible, Linda’s uniquely pure voice is both the driving force behind the songs, and the main reason this disc should be in every folk connoisseur’s CD player! But I am sure if you have listened to the two-minute song snippets here on Linda’s CD Baby site, you already know all this. What may not be so obvious is that a number of the truly inspiring songs on this CD were written by Linda, including the poignant title song, In the Corner. The rest of the album speaks for itself, with impeccable musicianship all around, masterful production, and refreshing arrangements of well-worn traditional songs such as Wayfaring Stranger, as well as delightful covers of contemporary artists like Greg Brown, Townes Van Zandt and The Waifs. In the end, words cannot do justice to this CD; you must give it a listen, again and again and again…
