Album Notes
You’ll love this beautiful ballad if you’ve ever cried from the pain of being left behind. Written as a protest against the practice of leaving babies alone to cry themselves to sleep, it expresses the feelings of loss, loneliness, fear, powerlessness and even anger of those who are ignored when they cry out in pain. The melody and lyrics were composed by the founder of “Parenting for a Caring World” with the goal of helping listeners understand the importance of empathy, connection and respect for the feelings of every human being, including babies. (You can see a video that matches the first part of the song on the home page of, plus you can hear a longer sample.) Lead and harmony vocal were beautifully sung by Linda Hicks and the haunting music was exquisitely performed and arranged by Michael Lewis.

Great message
The music, singer, and lyrics are beautiful. I love the message... a child wondering why parents are letting the child cry themselves to sleep.

Loving my babies to sleep.
This song is utterly glorious. Melts your heart, eases your mind, and if you were in any doubt as to the meanness of letting your baby cry it out, buy this song and have it reconfirmed to you that you are doing right by your baby by staying and comforting them - may it give you strength when you are tired or fractious, and encouragement if others doubt you, or you doubt yourself.
For those not already following attachment-style parenting - buy this, and see if you aren't converted...Lovely lovely tune too - I can listen to it time after time, especially sweet when baby and I are the only ones awake, and are rocking to sleep. Enjoy.

I wrote the above review when my eldest was a baby - he's now nearly six, and a secure, happy, brave, adorable child. And we have a new baby, and this song is as perfect as ever for us again.

"Awesome song! The music and lyrics are inspired
A glorious, heartbreaking concept is expressed in the lyrics, and I'm dazzled by the melody and the sheer beauty of the music, the guitar instrumental and the quality of the singing.... And the song is moving--my wife cries every time she listens to it."

Wonderful, takes me back to another time
What a beautifully lovely song. It's very reminiscent of Joan Baez in a folk-like and free-flowing “Peace Train” type way. Or "Sad Lisa" and "Morning Has Broken. Wonderfully written and performed
