Album Notes
Snow Mountain River is 9 songs recorded in the artists home studio overlooking boreal forest and pristine lake in northern Ontario. The writing of the songs spans the life of the artist as a singer/songwriter, from the first song she ever wrote and performed publicly, Kind Hands, to the song she conjured from the chat with a spider hanging from her studio ceiling, Green. Linda McLean is a writer and poet, an educator and a yoga teacher. She has lived the songs she writes about and is passionate about their purpose in her own life and for the lives of their listeners.
"I did a vision quest in the autumn of 2010, and it was there during my 4 days alone in silence in the forest, I realized my need to produce these songs in my studio with little more than my voice and guitar. ( I recorded with the windows open so there are a few birds chirping here and there in the background of some tracks). I knew in my heart I needed to make these particular songs available for all the ears who need to hear them."
Linda McLean's first and second commercial CDs. "Betty's Room" (Rounder, 2002) and "No Language" (Bongo Beat, 2005) garnered the artist international airplay, touring and critical acclaim. Written and recorded with her husband and songwriting partner Andy McLean and produced by John Whynot (Lucinda Williams, Bruce Cockburn) McLean won awards and managed solo tours on both sides of the Atlantic. Her current band project, John Lennon's Bed, is bringing together herself and Andy with the drummer who played on both her CDs, Gary Craig, and the bass player who joined them for multiple performances when he realized he liked playing with them, musician/ producer John Switzer. John Lennon's Bed is the title track and the first of 10 songs the band is recording, producing and releasing "one song at a time" until all the songs are ready to compile into a CD format. They're taking their time but, "when we get together and work, the time is meaningful, and we bring together over 100 years of music making experience, so we're making some potent sounds." The current song, Long Road, is avaiiable for free download when you sign up on the home page of their website, Mandolin Records is the name of the recording studio and publishing company Linda McLean owns and operates, and also the place she recorded this CD, Snow Mountain River.
