Album Notes
Little Mountain are a band from South London, UK. Formed in 2013, the members are Ste Forshaw, Amanda Zamolo and Ross Godfrey. They met on the South Bank by the Thames, Ste was busking a Van Morrison song on his National Steel guitar, Amanda and Ross were on their way to lunch at a Mexican restaurant nearby, they were very impressed by the young lad. Halfway through their quesadillas Ross declared he had to go back and talk to the young busker and see if he wanted to make a record together. Leaving the food on the table Ross briskly walked back to see Ste being moved on by the police. Interrupting, Ross offered his phone number and proposed a jam. This lead to songwriting sessions and late night recording binges which in turn gave birth to a great record.
Their eponymous debut album is released on October 25th 2014, it's got great songs, beautiful harmonies, rootsy guitar playing and organic production. The band are heavily influenced by the folk and rock music of the late 60's and early 70's but their songs live in the modern world. Recorded at Hillside Studios in South London in 2014 this album is anatomical and rejects the current trend of using computers to generate music and edit it to death. This is a band that can write and play for real.
The opening track Giving It Up is an upbeat tale of finding joy, overcoming hardship and loneliness. It’s great introduction to Little Mountain and will be the first single on the album. There is a wide variety of styles and moods here. Ste Forshaw's ballads are heart wrenching, his voice and guitar playing reminiscent of a young Steven Stills.
Amanda Zamolo is from Paris, France, and moved to London in 2012. Her voice draws you into an idyllic dream state on her tracks. When they sing together their voices intertwine beautifully. Ross Godfrey plays a variety of vintage instruments and let's loose with some far out guitar solos.
All the songs are original, written by the band. Catch Me was co-written with Will Sprott (Mumlers) from California, he also sings and plays guitar on the track. The drums are also from California, by way of desert studio engineer and musician Dan Joeright (The Rentals, Jim White, David Byrne).
All those who listen to the album fall in love with it's simple beauty and honesty. The band are currently gearing up to tour UK and Europe.
