ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"The Long Goodbye"
"A gorgeous song cycle of true love in decline, the latest from the alt-country darling Susannah Weaver is a gem. Written with unflinching honesty and admirable simplicity...it's further argument that wider recognition for this artist is inevitable."
Marty Hughley ~ The Oregonian ~ January, 2003

"With her new album Susannah Weaver, known as Little Sue, joins lost love to wisdom, creating something mysterious and new...One of the most beautiful albums that great community (Portland, Oregon) has ever been proud to call its own."
Jeff Rosenberg ~ Willamette Week ~ November, 2002

"Her third record is her most nuanced and accomplished. The production exudes warmth and keeps the focus where it belongs: on Weaver's honky-tonk angel voice. Despite the melancholy, confessional lyrics of nearly every song, The Long Goodbye avoids cliche and pity due to the hope and strength that Weaver's voice naturally conveys..."
Jim Desmond ~ No Depression ~ January-February, 2003

"Thoughtful arrangements bolster the sound while deferring completely to Weaver's vulnerable-yet-resilient voice...As a chronicle of loss and ultimate redemption few albums come close to the power of The Long Goodbye."
John Foyston ~ The Oregonian ~ November, 2002

" Delivering heartbreak as bittersweet as Tammy Wynette's, told in Emmylou Harris' bee-stung voice, the Portland country-pop chanteuse's songs swim into the heart and settle in quite nicely. The Long Goodbye is a lovely look at the sorrow and sadness of a dying relationship, but it's also ripe and rich with promise and the thrill of what will be coming along next."
Scott Lewis ~ The Oregonian A&E ~ December, 2002

Portland's Best Kept Secret?
Nillson schmillson! I listen to this CD so much, I assume everyone owns it (like Thriller). We'll miss Elliot, but Little Sue should be recognized as the great Portland singer-songwriter. At some point we will be watching her at the Oscars between Celine Dion and Trisha Yearwood, going - Huh? An amazing talent and an awesome CD.

Excellent !!!
This album is superb! It's really rare these days to find an artist with this kind of depth. Heart and soul and honesty just pour out of her when she sings. And what a great band! If you get a chance to see Little Sue play live, don't pass it up.

heartfelt, genuine music
Okay, I know, not about the artist in general, but let me say one sentence about little sue: she's got spirit, a wonderful voice, and you'll connect with her songs almost immediately. About this CD: innovative, expressive, emotive, simple, straightforward, from the deep inside, a who-hasn't-been-there feel, laid over tunes you won't be able to get out of your head.

We have been listening non-stop to this CD and its follow-up Shine
The incredible song-writing and singing/playing skill of Little Sue really reaches a sophisticated and meaningful level
on this CD. My wife and I cannot stop listening to it. Little Sue also surrounds herself with accomplished musicians and enters the studio with an armload of great original songs. The production values are extremely high, including some very elegant in-studio techniques that bring it all together. It is now one of our desert island top 10 disks.
