Album Notes
The Hills of Early Morn’ began as a ‘new dawn’ in my musical journey. My vision was to complement a western history program Susan and I had been performing. Additionally, it has been a homecoming for me.
Fort Collins is the place where I went to college, discovered my voice, and built lifelong friendships and musical partnerships. Among them was a duo with my friend ‘Cinnamon Sue’ Dailey.
Susan and her husband, Willie, fronted the bluegrass roots band “The McDaileys”, and
it wasn’t long before Willie’s fresh energy and musical savvy was welcomed into our act. We emerged as a trio with our debut at the 2017 Colorado Cowboy Gathering in Golden, CO. The memory resides as a highlight in my musical career.
EP’s enthusiasm and gracious offer to engineer the sessions brought the concept of this project to fruition. Clarke signed on as fiddler, and in the summer of 2017 these five
close friends, seizing the moment, captured the magic, love, appreciation, and joy which permeate every note of this recording.
Like many moments we savor, we wish they could endure. What began as my ‘new dawn’ may be the sunset of my career. Though I longed to continue recording, the beauty of this sunset has left an indelible mark on my heart. Hopefully, it shall endure through the ages long after I have ridden to Greener Pastures.
Many, many thanks to my loyal fans who have supported my music all these years. - Liz Masterson, December 2017
