Album Notes
Being Who You Are - lloyd Thayer

Boston based multi-instrumentalist lloyd Thayer's fifth instrumental release, offers 14 lapstyle pieces, and crosses many continents and cultures. Clocking in at just under 75 minutes, his ninth full length is best heard deep within the heart, rather than the head.
What sets Thayer apart from the rest of the fingerstyle guitar world, is his use of lap style Dobro and Weissenborn guitars, which create a completely different sonic world than that of his contemporaries.
He writes "since I'm fretting all the notes with a metal bar, rather than my fingers, there are definite physical limitations to what I can do, but I try to let these help me rather than hinder me, and to force myself to go beyond those limits to create things I've never heard before." Thayer is also a dedicated student of the Makam/Maqam theory of Arabic and Turkish musics, as well as Hindustani classical music. "I try to be respectful of the traditions that I study, but I also want to be be true to the time and place I was born in...
and that's where the title of the Cd comes from "being who you are".....
In addition to writing and playing all of the pieces, Thayer also recorded, engineered and produced the album.............all the music was written, practiced, played and recorded in close proximity to live retired racing Greyhounds
