ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Lluis Capdevila, from Priorat (Catalonia, Spain) to Manhattan (New York, U.S.A.)

Lluís Capdevila was born in Priorat (Catalonia, Spain) in 1981. His passion for creating and to express himself freely approached him to improvisation. However, he went to Law school, did a Masters in Copyright Law in Stockholm (Sweden) and worked at an Intellectual Property Law agency in Barcelona. Although he had a steady job, he opted to focus on what really moves him: music.

With the help of a Fulbright grant, he moved to New York City to study at the Aaron Copland School of Music in 2007. Those years were a revelation for him, receiving a strong inspiration from the Jazz scene. Once graduated, he decided to continue his musical education in New York and in 2010 he enrolled at Stony Brook University, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2015). He was able to make a living exclusively through music thanks to his organist position at an African American Church in the Bronx, where he played Gospel music, and his regular engageents in restaurants and clubs, where he shared the stage with veteran musicians like Philip Harper, James Cammack or Elliot Zigmund or emerging talents like Tivon Penicott and Kush Abadey. Diaspora was his artistic debut album in the jazz world, which received an excellent review from the New York City Jazz Record. The album was released at the Rockwood Music Hall main stage in March 2016, with Petros Klampanis (double bass) and Luca Santaniello (drums). Lluis Capdevila is now based in Reus (Catalonia) and New York City (USA) and tours constantly playing his music.

"Capdevila is a smart and sensitive composer and those qualities inform his playing as well".
Donald Elffman, The New York City Jazz Record.
