ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The LeMoyne-Owen College African Drumming Ensemble (LOCADE), was created in 2006 by Mr. James Wilburn and Dr. David Lisik. The group, comprised of students from LeMoyne-Owen College and Hollis F. Price Middle College (on the LOC campus) rehearses twice a week and is dedicated to the traditional and modern performances of African percussion and from various time periods and regions of the continent. Highlights of the many recent LOCADE performances include Memphis' Africa in April Festival mainstage, the Black Executive Exchange Program, the Memphis Zoo and Memphis' Orpheum Theater for the Annual LeMoyne-Owen Sunday Celebration. Recording of the group include the debut CD, Batho Pele, and Vo Vonda Ngondo featuring LOCADE with guest tenor saxophone soloists, Tom Link and Art Edmaiston. Tracks from Batho Pele were selected for "Britannia’s New Eden: The Royal Province of East Florida" a documentary to be released in 2009.
