ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
RAW, HONEST, RHYTHMIC MUSIC THAT HITS CLOSE TO HOME.

the local began in West Palm Beach, Florida as Daniel Kiedis and Jason McDonell combined forces with friend and drummer Lukas Schartner. In November 2004 the band expanded to include Susan Sherouse (currently touring with Dashboard Confessional, and John Ralston) on violin. August of 2005 marked the release of their first full length project, "Ambivalence."

As the title suggests, their songs are strung together like stories of a grade school student boasting about scars during show and tell. Each story is woven with strands of opposite emotions such that the reminder of pain exists simultaneously with the joy of seeing that pain from another vantage point. the local proves to be a promising up-and-coming band with a strong and loyal following. With a healthy mix of thoughtful lyrics, warm melodies and dynamic instrumentation, they boasts like children who find that hope can exist despite circumstance.

With influences that include but are not limited to: Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate), Martin Sexton, David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), Adam Duritz (Counting Crows), James Taylor, Eva Cassidy, Nick Drake, Ben Folds, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service), Dave Matthews, Elliot Smith, Damien Rice, Rachael Yamagata, Chris Martin (Coldplay) you are bound to come away with an ear full.

the local EXPERIENCE IS A COMFORTABLE ONE THAT FINDS ITSELF CLOSE ENOUGH TO FEEL YOUR HEART BEAT AND FAR ENOUGH THAT YOU CAN STILL BREATHE.

Nothing Ambiguous about the Strength of Emotion in Ambivalence
Ambivalence is the perfect companion for life. The most primal of humanity's emotions are flayed open in the compilation of songs found on this CD. Each new track is declared my favorite, until the next comes on -- this is such a rarity. With so many CDs I am disappointed to find only three, or if I'm lucky, four songs that truly appeal to me. I find myself wanting to study the lyrics, delve into the words, and feel the emotion pouring forth. Because it hits me on such a primal, personal level I know Ambivalence has become a life-time friend.

This cd will have you going through every emotion possible.
What is there to really say about ambivalence by the local. Its truly a cd that you have to listen to yourself to fully understand the power and emotion from this amazing band. Every single song on this album will make you feel a different type of emotion, which is why this is such a solid release. There's definately never a dull moment and the songwriting and musicianship is outstanding. Pick this release up as soon as possible.
