ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Locklin Road is a Celtic and folk trio from Minnesota specializing in musical storytelling, from traditional and contemporary Irish folk songs to original work. The band's three-part harmonies and accompaniment on guitars, bass and mandolin produce a sound that merges traditional Celtic with a contemporary folk style.

Says one reviewer of The Waters and The Wild cd:

"Dan Kowalke carries the bulk of the instrumental work on a variety of stringed instruments, notably a mandolin that gets a merciless workout. Sheri O'Meara's crystalline vocals are perfect for this material and alone make the CD worth finding, and the vocal harmonies she and bassist Gregg Weigand generate are angelic at times. This is as fine a collection of parlor tunes as I've heard in a while." (Jim Tarbox, Irish Gazette)

Sheri wrote the original songs on the CD, chief among them the emotional and poignant “Laughlins’ Crossing,” the story of her ancestors’ dramatic immigration from Ireland. Other original work on the cd includes: the tragic ballad “Miranda”; the reflective “Dreams”; the peaceful Twilight Lullaby; and the W.B. Yeats poem “Stolen Child” (which features the line from which the album derives its name, “Come away oh human child, to the waters and the wild.”).

For lovers of traditional Irish music, there is plenty on this CD to enjoy, including Star of the County Down, Wild Mountain Thyme, Whiskey in the Jar, Leaving of Liverpool and Hills of Connemara.

According to email from one purchaser of the cd: “Nothing prepared me for what I heard on your ‘Waters and the Wild’ CD. My wife and I were absolutely blown away! You guys are TERRIFIC ... and I don't hand out compliments carelessly.” (email from cd purchaser Jerry H.)
