Album Notes
Mary Lofstrom brings a glimmer of old-fashioned silken artistry to songs that are ripe for this moment. A unique flavor is brought to the jazz world through Mary Lofstrom's songwriting and song choices. Seated at once smack dab in the middle of traditional jazz, yet tugging at its fringes with her openly lesbian lyrics and modifications, Lofstrom makes her listener's feel at ease with her clear, emotive style.

These eleven songs could easily accompany the listener to daylight, come along for a lazy drive, take a turn in the garden of the soul, or leave one in the dark with martini in hand.

Ms. Lofstrom is buoyed and nudged by her collaboration with Dawn Clement and Laura Welland. Sometimes relaxed and affable Mary sinks easily into a vibrant trio groove of 'what's next' with her lyrical, boisterous solos. Dawn Clememt is stunning in her cultivation and growth of ripe song soil and perfect in her harvest of ideas for the three original songs presented. Laura Welland's melodic and impeccably wise bass create a vibrant backdrop for frolic, folly and adoration.

The CD is great.Mary Lofstrom is here to stay.
This is already my favorite CD.I have turned my friends on to it.

Very nice CD - old fashioned - makes me feel like I'm sitting in a piano bar, relaxing. I recommend it!

Jeff Smith

The most inviting, polished and enjoyable CD so far.
This CD, with it's smooth, sophisticated vocals is warm and inviting. It's not just for the Jazz aficionada, the arrangements and presentation combined with a dynamic vocal style lifts it beyond it's jazz roots. This is her best CD so far, thoroughly enjoyable yet deeply thought provoking. You feel as if you have reached her soul and can sense her passion for the music as the songs reach out and embrace you leaving you feeling somehow connected to the music and the artist. This CD is powerful and moving, even the previously released songs have new passion, energy and style, making them better than ever.

The same gorgeous voice we know and love.....
In Ginger Comes to Stay, Mary runs the gamut and this disc can't be compartmentalized. Some of it has off-the-rack riffs and some of it goes WAY out to the edge... but ALL of it is Mary!

I own to 2 CD's now of this talented artist and would recommend this one to anyone.
I am not what one would call a big 'jazz lover' but Mary manages to make loving her music easy, with her clever and funny lyrics(thumbs up for including out and proud openly lesbian references in her songs!) and with the great arrangements, it is a great mixture.
So sad that this gifted artist is no longer with us, but her musical legacy is there for everyone to discover and appreciate for years to come.
