Album Notes
Robin Wilson (vocalist for the Gin Blossoms) and Steve French (guitarist for the English band Star-Club) met 12 years ago when their respective bands were touring the States together.

The two kept in touch. Since then, the Gin Blossoms went on to sell more than four million albums, were nominated for a Grammy, have toured tirelessly and have been an ever-present voice on radio across the U.S.

French moved to New York City to concentrate on his solo performances and songwriting, and to further develop his music production skills.

A few years ago, it became obvious that, with Wilson's energy and interest in diverse projects and French's evocative material, a collaboration between these old friends could yield a strong and emotive album.

The result of the French/Wilson collaboration is The Longshadows and their debut CD, "Simple Minded Way." In 2006, The Longshadows will perform their first live shows and explore opportunities available to promote and further develop the project. French and Wilson plan to develop a fanbase through extensive touring and online promotion, and to eventually record a follow-up to "Simple Minded Way".

This CD is fabulous!!! Wonderful music! Enjoy!

Longshadows sounds like Crowded House, Paul Collins Beat & Beach Boys combined
Longshadows maintains the indie pop rock sound of Crowded House, Paul Collins' Beat, Byrds, Roger McGuinn, Beach Boys and Gin Blossoms, Wilson's other band. The quality of this CD is unlike other titles I have found on CDBaby.

I'm almost embarrassed to make the following assertion, but I'm being sincere: This is one of the most incredible CDs I've ever owned. There's just a quality about it that is refreshing. The songwriting is different, elegant, beautiful. The lyrics are deep and meaningful. And Robin Wilson's ever-captivating voice is just the exclamation point these works of art deserve. I assure you this CD won't disappoint.

solid effort...hope they can gain support / production money for 2nd effort.
Been listening to the CD for past week going to and from work. From first listen, songs 1 - 4 are strong. Those 4 songs frame the talents of these two artists and make one hope The Longshadows find support. French has a trademark pop compostion and sonic qualities, meaningful lyric and solid pop sensibilities. And, Robin's voice and phrasing are spot on.

Then, songs 5-7: Not horrible...simply forgettable. They feel and sound like that you might hear wafting from a coffee shop on a Saturday afternoon: Nondescript...softminded...directionless (is that a word?). Thankfully, the remaining songs put the effort back on track.

Don't get me wrong, I'd pony the doe for this effort over the many of the CD's pushed as alternative pop. Further, the weak songs are not insulting or lacking in effort rather the artists miss their marks. In the end, it is hoped these fellows make enough nickles to support these and additonal efforts.

One last note: CD Baby need be commended as well. Similar to Maple Music, these outlets are great resources for this slot of music. I hope both are successful by all measures. However, ditch the fake e-mails from the artists to the consumer. For example: I received an e-mail supposedly from Steve French advsing me of this effort. Perhaps I'm too cynical...and, if so 'apologies' to Mr. French.

Must have for Robin Wilson's side project enthusiasts...
This CD is a long shot from RW's other projects. I've heard that Sail On did well at some stage, but my personal preferences are the ballad-like songs, especially Falling Water and Simple Minded Way. Full points for vocals, lyrics, musical arrangement. For those, Steve French should get all the credits due to him as a producer. Some songs have a Byrdslike (Wishing We Weren't So) or Crowded Houseish quality (e.g. Phoenix In Your Footsteps, Little Birds...). This CD will certainly be the perfect choice for those longish autumn and winter evenings. For me at least... Lovely!

I expected nothing less than stellar vocals from Robin and that's exactly what I got. No matter what band he is in, Gin Blossoms, Gas Giants you can always hear a great vocal. Cheers!

I should have bought 2 !
Having been a big fan of Robin Wilson since the 1st Gin Blossoms lp, I just recently found out about this cd, and I am really glad I did. Lyrics that make you think, melodies that make you sing along, and a general feeling of gentleness come together to make this one of my favorite cd's of this year. I highly recommend it.
