Album Notes
Lonnie Shields-Lead Vocalist, Lead Guitarist,

Lonnie Shields is truly one of the finest of the next generation of the blues. He cut his blues teeth performing with The Jelly Roll Kings. His recording career has led him through a number of studios from Memphis and Clarksdale to tours all over the world. This Delta born guitarist, singer and songwriter style is just the opposite of his demeanor. Lonnie comes across as a mild mannered southern gentleman with a laid back nature. On stage he is transformed into an extraordinary entertainer moving to his music and feeding off the energy of the audience. His music is deeply rooted in gospel, soul and R&B while his sound, like his soul is never too far from the home of the blues.
Lonnie was the first Delta artist that Rooster blues picked up after moving to Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1987. His CD “Portrait” was released in 1992 (named Album of the Year by Living Blues Magazine) and reads like a who’s who of Delta Blues Performers. Over the years, Lonnie shared the stage with many Blues greats including Willie Dixon, Johnnie Bassett, Elvin Bishop, Sam Carr, Frank Frost, Pinetop Perkins, Denise LaSalle, Sonny Rhodes, Eddie Shaw, Big Jack Johnson and B.B.King just to name a few. In the years following his release of “Portrait” Lonnie’s career skyrocketed. He has performed all over the world and has released a string of impressive CDs featuring his soulful, “down home Blues” with a contemporary, yet juke-joint feel.
Lonnie’s hard work has paid in a fine compilation of music and a reputation of a man with the heart and soul of the Blues. Lonnie now resides just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but always has and always will be the Keeper of The Blues wherever he lays his guitar.
Currently, Lonnie is working on a new CD featuring young blues based artist, Jesse Loewy The CD will consist of Lonnie's original material along with a collection of covers will be a tribute to BB King, Tyrone Davis, and Johnny Taylor.

Jesse Loewy-Lead/Rhythm Guitarist, Lead/Backup Vocalist,
Musical Director, Musical Arranger, Band Manager

Jesse Loewy is a young blues based guitar player who gigs regularly at festivals and establishments in the Tri-State Philadelphia area. Music has always been a big part of his life. He showed interest in the guitar at the tender age of two. At three he got his first guitar and taught himself to play by watching videos of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. At the age of eight he was asked to join a musician on stage at a restaurant and was well received by the crowd. That experience led Jesse to performing various open mic nights in the local area. By the time Jesse was thirteen he appeared on The 10! Show in Philadelphia as the featured attraction.

In 2011, Jesse was again asked to join a musician on stage ~ Lonnie Shields took the guitar off his back and introduced Jesse to the crowd at the State Street Blues Stroll (Media, PA) where he proceeded to bring down the house.
That same year, Jesse formed his own band. After starting in bar/restaurants, The Jesse Loewy Band advanced to performing at festivals and establishments including Briggs Farm Blues Festival, Destination Blues Festival (Poconos, PA), and World Café Live at the Queen (Wilmington, DE).

Jesse was also fortunate enough to meet and share the stage with David Bromberg, Al Chez (former trumpet player for the Late Show With David Letterman), Herb Smith (guitarist for Patti LaBelle), Slam Allen, Leroy Hawks and Lonnie Shields to name a few.

Most recently, Jesse received admission to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and plans to put his education on hold to join the Lonnie Shields Band as lead/rhythm guitarist, musical director, and band manager. Jesse will continue to perform extensively with The Lonnie Shields Band and Jesse’s own band while also working on a new CD with Lonnie.
Jesse’s natural ability and love of performing on stage, his impressive work ethic, his humble demeanor, and his innate unbounded talent is sure to take him anywhere he wants to go.

Over the years Mike has played and in many genres such as Blues, R&B/Funk, Jazz, Fusion, Rock, Reggae, Country, Classical (on upright), and even a touch of Punk. He believes that any musician, especially Bass players have to have an open mind and immerse themselves in whatever style they are playing . "Make the music FEEL like you have been playing that style your whole life."
Mike found a love for the Blues after running into a Blues guitarist Elmo Preston In the late 90's. The Journey in Blues started then and continues to this day with The Lonnie Shields Band.

Louis Taylor-Alto & Baritone Saxophone

L.T. was born on Christmas day. We all know as a child that sucks due to combined presents. But the fact is, the best present his parents could have given him was allowing him to honk his sax in the house as a child. With time he became quite proficient on the instrument lending his talents to several members of musical royalty throughout the years such as, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The O’Jays, Stylistics, Patti Labelle, The Temptations and even actor turned vocalist Terrence Howard. Louis was also a member of the “Emeril Live” House Band for several years.

Dr. Donald Collins-Trombone

It should be against the law for a man to be able to provide care for patients by day for their physical well being and the be able to heal the soul and spirit with his horn as Don does. One half of the “Vanilla Soul Brothers”, he is the glue that holds the horn section together. Don, Henri and Louis have been playing as a section for well over twelve years. Don’s stints include Patti Labelle, Boyz II Men, The O’Jays, Johnny Mathis, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin and so on and so forth….
