ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Loom Ensemble collaboratively creates new performances that weave together equal parts dance, music and theater.

“[Composer Sasha] Bogdanowitsch makes music like quicksand: it sucks you in slowly, almost against your will, overwhelms you, then brings you out the other side disoriented but grateful.”
Mei Tan--Middletown Press

"Erosion merits as large an audience as it can get."
R.Pikser--Theaterscene.net

“A tightly functioning unit of hyper-talented people who can — to put it concisely — do everything.”
Cassie M.--Winesburg Blog

Erosion: a Fable premiered in February 2012 to sold out houses at La MaMa Experimental Theater Club in New York City. Erosion: a Fable takes a look at the familiar world of corporate desk jobs through a surprising aesthetic prism--equal parts Occupy Wall Street and Dr. Seuss. The show uses Loom’s signature palette of full-body movement, layered vocal harmonies, and text-based storytelling to stage this story of corporate competition, environmental catastrophe and personal transformation.

The last two tracks on the album -- "Wake Up" and "Part Of" -- are new additions to the Loom vocal repertoire, but the rest of the music on comes from our show "Erosion: a Fable." The textural shifts and unexpected song forms all reflect unfolding events in the Erosion narrative. The musical composition process grew fully interwoven along with collaborative decisions about choreography and storytelling. With this album, though, we hope not just to capture the music as it was performed on stage, but to create something new and delightful that stands on its own.

The musical instrumentation used in this show/recording are multifold, from original instruments like the Halo, Flipflophone, and Tubulon to electronic instruments in software and samplers.

Enjoy.
