ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Based out of the Mission District of San Francisco, LORD LOVES A WORKING MAN, is a 10-piece group inspired by the raw and emotive sound of the Southern Soul shouters and horn-driven R&B of the late 60's. The music included on the group's second full length CD is a seamless mix of originals alongside new arrangements of obscure covers that evokes the spirit of this era while at the same time forging a new sound with the group's own distinct voice.

A cast of all star Bay Area musicians fronted by singers Freddi Price and Cynthia Taylor employ impassioned vocal performances, screaming horns, and overdriven organs and guitars to create the infectious dance party anthems, epic ballads, and deep funk grooves that make up the 15 tracks on this album. From good times to hard times, from love to despair, from fear to hope...LLAWM covers it all in a fashion that respectfully pays homage to the great artists of the past but taking it in their own honest and heartfelt direction.

INFLUENCES INCLUDE:
Booker T. & The MG's; Howard Tate; Clay Hammond; ZZ Hill; Betty Harris; Candi Staton; Tony Joe White; James Carr; Charles Wright and the 103rd Street Band; Solomon Burke; Sly & The Family Stone; Allen Toussaint; Johnny Adams; Otis Redding; William Bell....basically anything from Stax, Kent, or Numero Records

East Bay Express - LocaL Licks

Album Review: Lord Loves A Working Man
"... ' 'Derivative' isn't necessarily a pejorative term if the derivation is good enough to compete with the original. And that's the case with retro-soul band Lord Loves a Working Man, a ten-piece outfit that plays mostly original material (but for the occasional Allen Toussaint cover). The band specializes in raucous but cleanly-arranged blues, bolstered by the powerful pipes of Cynthia Taylor and Freddi Price. It's more straight revival than pastiche, which shows how assiduously these musicians studied their forebears." - EAST BAY EXPRESS (Oakland, CA, orignal url of review at: http://www.eastbayexpress.com/ebx/local-licks/Content?oid=3036674)
