ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Lori B is a fiery folk diva - part poet, part vitamin, part snake-charmer, and a devout humanist. Her songs are found objects about life, love, loss, longing and the human mystery.

Lori B is in her second incarnation as a singing-songwriter. Born on the tail winds of Hurricane Hazel, she began writing songs on the piano at age 14. She kept her music a secret through young adulthood and, after college, Lori B fell musically silent.
During those years, she drove a tractor-trailer around America, delivering furniture and household goods. Then she worked in the movie business for a decade, in Hollywood and New York. Finally, uncomfortable with the emptiness and excess in the big budget film world, Lori B took a hard left turn and enrolled in Columbia University's social work graduate program. Concurrently, she did a three year certification in Rubenfeld Synergy, an elegant mind-body therapeutic integration. After these studies, she practiced psychotherapy in New York City, specializing in work with women on body image issues and eating disorders.

Several years later, Lori B began dancing again (abandoned, with the music, in her twenties). Exposure to an amazing form called Contact Improvisation created a profound physical and emotional homecoming. After a period of immersion, Lori B began teaching and performing movement improvisation in America and abroad. She has danced extensively in groups of people with and without physical disabilities.

The dancing eventually led Lori B back into writing and singing. And after moving to the Bay Area, she found her way into a recording studio and made a six-song audio cassette, Lucky Seven. Shortly thereafter, she began performing as a solo musician and then released her debut album, Hurricane Child, which received critical acclaim from audiences, reviewers, djs, and fellow musicians. In 2001, that album was released in Japan.

Lori B's music is contemporary, bred-in-the-bone folk. Her live performance is unapologetically emotional, and radically intimate. She is an unselfconscious clown/Buddha whose humor, truth and depth returns us to the center of our own hearts.
Lori B's second album, SHADOWS of LOVE, will be released spring 2004.

Esther from Whole Wheat Radio

Intimate, lovely, different... highly recommened
Lori B has been one of the sleeper discoveries on Whole Wheat Radio. Her voice and lyrics are clear, simple poetry. Her perfectly spare arrangements just fill me with pleasure. She deserves more and more discoverers. Listen to some samples and you'll see what I mean...
