Album Notes
This is the audio version of my self published paperback:" Am I Brain Damaged? Memoir of Return to LIfe After My Head Injury" updated version April 2011 with current commentaries. Read by the author LoriPurdy Faitel.
When I was almost 25 years old I was in a devastating car accident on my way to work as an executive secretary. I was saved by the jaws of life and admitted to the hospital in a coma that lasted for 7 days. It took about 6 years of training, therapy and extensive self study to enable me to successfully return to the world of the non brain injured. When I became alert from the coma I had to re-learn, in my adult body, how to move, eat, & breathe then the hard part began. Once I was able to speak, and communicate again I had to re-learn to read, write, study and function as an adult again. I was once told that I possibly would never re-develop mental capabilities beyond that of a 13 year old. I beat the odds! I returned to college and I am a professional Occupational Therapy Assistant. Listen to my story and recognize the power and strength within us all. Not only will my story provide insight to the world but comfort for my sisters and brothers who are brain injured; My story will inspire, motivate and educate. "I am Lori's Mother and I cannot express the pain and anguish her Father and I experienced during her recuperation. In reading 'Am I Brain Damaged?' over and over again I have been enlightened. I pray for every parent who deals with a situation as this. If I had this when Lori was in the hospital I would have taken comfort in reading a survivor's perspective on all aspects of brain re-creation and the multiple attempts to return to the world of the non-brain Injured. This is, after my initial shock, of course." Dorothy Jean Purdy, Authors MOM
"I have worked with many people who have suffered different aches and pains from various car mishaps. Since reading Lori's version of pain and suffering I feel that I have increased compassion for auto related physical malfunctions. I recommend 'Am I Brain Damaged? Return to LIfe After My Head Injury' to all people including medical personnel as a reference tool with insights from the patient perspective" Dr. Adam Rodnick, Chiropractor-Rodnick Chiropractic, Union Lake MI
"I was very touched by Lori's book. I appreciate the time she took to write her experiences. I think her book is good for the caretakers of a brain-injured person. My 22-year old son became brain injured two years ago. We are still in the limbo stage. Lori's book not only gave me some insight on what my son may be feeling but also it gave me hope that there is more healing to come. Thank You, Lori" Ms.Hannah R. Anderson
"Lori's book is a valuable tool to both the patient and those caring for the recovering individual. You will see recovery through the eyes of the patient and also get more than a peak at the feelings and emotions that she is experiencing. Don't miss the opportunity to glean from Lori's experience and make your own go a little smoother." Greta Emling RDH and co-author of: "Wounded and Voiceless...All things Are Possible."
"At one point during my recovery, I remember telling or being told that I was alive because God wanted me to be. To this day I am sure I was kept alive to serve others and utilize what I have been throughout to help people. I have used this mantra through the years of recuperation and professionally as an Occupational Therapist. When something has become hard to handle, or difficult to learn, or perform professionally...I have known God is behind me, and his plan for me is, to help others.
