Album Notes
Lorraine's melodies and words flow from her in an organic way, and have done so ever since she was a little girl. Following up from her debut recording of traditional jazz standards, called First Off the Floor, On the Edge is a collection of her original songs. Digging into various themes; the moods, rhythms and emotions delivered touch us in a many ways. From human perseverance, to intense yearning for love, to straight up dance sass, there's something for everyone. Lorraine leaned into long-time music collaborators and friends: Joey Smith, who is featured on stand-up bass; Louise Rose, on piano and vocals; and Kelby MacNayr, on drums and percussion. Each of these musicians is well known in North America and have played in Europe too, and are well-respected for their soulful and inspired interpretations. On a few select pieces, Nick LaRiviere is heard on trombone, Roy Styffe on saxophone, and Daniel Lapp on violin and trumpet.

The quartet of Lorraine, Louise, Joey and Kelby met in Rick Salt's recording studio in Nanaimo in mid summer of 2016, and the music recorded in a marathon 2 days. Most songs were completed with just 2 takes, just like a truly live recording session. Later, horns and strings were added, via LaRiviere's studio in Victoria. One can sense the true artistry in each piece, wonderfully refreshing in these times, and there are many unique and magical moments within these 10 original songs. Enjoy.
