Album Notes
This CD is our contribution to modern Cuban rumba and folklore. "Los Rumberos de la Bahia" is the name of a San Francisco-based rumba/folklore group led by Michael Spiro and Jose Luis Gomez. This project was produced by the internationally recognized Afro-Cuban musician Jesus Diaz, and features some of the world's leading rumberos: Ernest Gatell ("El Gato"), Raul Brito ("Lali"), Fito Reinoso, amongst many others. It is a tribute to our elders and mentors who have passed, including Regino Jimenez, Esteban Vega "Cha-Cha", Juan de Dios, Gregorio Hernandez ("Goyo"), Daniel Alfonso, and Gregorio Diaz ("Goyo"). Though utterly rooted in the traditions of Afro-Cuban folkloric music, it carries our own distinct voice and personal artistic expression.
"Vengan rumberos, vengan a guarachar!"
