Album Notes
Singing the Praises

“An amazing voice.”

“A gift from God.”

“Songs that the Lord has written through Him,” conveying “the strength of humility,” lacking any “pop-culture nonsense.”

“Without a doubt life-changing.”

“I literally got goosebumps the first time I heard ‘Johnsong.’”

“So much passion that it touched my soul.”

Those listeners are “singing the praises” of Florida Wayne and his music, which started when he was a young boy growing up as an army brat, using his hairbrush as a microphone. Later in his youth he learned trumpet and piano, but it wasn’t until two experiences changed his life forever that the true artist came alive in him. The first was at age 18 when he repented of his sins and believed in Jesus Christ, and the second was at 19 when he picked up a guitar for the first time. He taught himself to play and practiced an average of four hours per day for the next ten years.

Along the way he began playing in church worship bands and writing his own songs, recording his first collection of songs, I Give All, in 1999. In 2004, he formed the band Lost in Rotation with Pat Belsky (drums) and Sean McNally (bass) and recorded From Nothing to Everything with them. In 2006 the band added Mike Kelly on electric guitar and Mike Shilling on bass and recordedeleven songs in a friend’s barn. All the songs were performed live but sound like they were produced in a studio, and were released in 2007 in an album called The Barnyard Sessions. Then Florida Wayne and the same band “unplugged” and recorded an acoustic album of some existing and new material called Kingdom Son (released in 2011). From then until today Florida Wayne has continued to write music and perform in various venues as a solo artist.

During all his years as a songwriter and performer, Florida Wayne has also regularly led God’s people in worship at churches and retreats. Whether he is writing music, performing, or leading worship, he always considers himself to be “singing the praises” of the One who called and gifted Him. And all those who hear him are blessed by his passionate vocals, and the memorable lyrics he has written…

“If I can’t stand, if I can’t walk, I’ll crawl to where your grace is.”

“Give me the heart of the nail-torn lover.”

“Words of love can bring you from in the rain.”

“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.”

“Her makeup covers her bruises, her scars.”

“As I get older, and not too wise…”

“This is the beginning, after the end…after the end, after the end!”
