Album Notes
Christmas is a happy time. This is why I made this recording a happy one. To me it is also the 'cold' time, having grown up in Austria, so you will find a variety of my zither music on this CD.

My own three compositions are the wonderful memories I felt when I sat down to start recording. The 'Snowflakes on the Window', so beautiful to watch them melt away, the 'Birdie in the Snow', desperately looking for something to eat in the snow and 'Skating', gosh was it fun, just little frozen-over ponds cracking open here and there. Enjoy it with me, let's go!!

I started this recording with 'Twinkle little star' because not only the children love it, but I see it again and again in the restaurant where I work, everybody's hands and fingers are up in the air making a little star and somehow to me it always feels like a Christmas song. I love 'Auld Lang Syne' and was unsure which recording it should go on and because it follows Christmas it was perfect to finish off the album. So, happy new year!

I have been working with my music for a long time. I started performing back in Austria when I was about 13 before I went to London to marry an Australian who brought me to Sydney with our three children in 1966. Here I met another zither player and after practicing together we called ourselves 'Lotte and Johanna' the zither girls. We did well on New Faces TV talent show and Graeme Bell (a famous Jazz pianist) became our manager and we performed in all the clubs around Sydney, toured with the well known 'Ink Spots' making three LP recordings.

In 1977 we were decorated with the 'Golden Cross of Merit' from the Austrian Government which is a rare distinction for folkloric artists. We split up just before this event but I wanted to carry on and found an accordion player and in 1986 I started out on my own. Since then I have recorded the 6 CDs and am now working on number 7.

One of my biggest highlights is still the first performance at the Sydney Opera House for the New Year's Eve Gala Concert. I was there with the 50 piece Symphony Orchestra playing the Solo part in 'Tales from the Vienna Woods' followed by the 'Harry Lime Theme'. You could have heard a pin drop but I sure was glad when it was over without any mistakes. I did the same performance 6 times in the following years.

I hope you will enjoy my recordings and I will leave you here with best wishes. Alles Liebe und Gute, liebe Gruesse. Lotte.

Wonderful Christmas Childhood Memories
What great childhood memories Lotte's "Christmas Zither Music" CD brought back for me! I played this CD all during the holiday season. My mother learned to play the Zither when she was a child. Unfortunately, she lost her Zither when the Russians came in to attack her little town of Kleinzell, in Austria towards the end of WW2. As I was growing up, my mother kept playing this one song over and over again on the record player. I did not know the name of the song until I heard it on THIS CD and I started crying! The song is called "Leise Rieselt Der Schnee (Snow Is Falling Gently)." I will make it a holiday tradition to play Lotte's "Christmas Zither Music." Thank you Lotte! God Bless You!
