Album Notes
There is a reawakened interest in things we call our very own, things like the songs the Philippines used to hum or sing during the golden years of Tagalog ballads—the thirties up to the present bringing a new warmth and nostalgia in our hearts for vintage music of remarkable quality we have been missing since.
Filipino composers have expressed their finer feelings in such all-endearing melodies like the theme song of this album, “Sampaguita” (La Flor de Manila) composed by one of the greats Dolores Paterno (pictured on the cover), and the undying “Walang kamatayan”, “Magpakailan man”, “Babalik ka rin”, and “Hindi kita Malimot,” to name a few of the tender, gracious, joyful, loving and sincere ditties whose very nature reflects the sentiments of our people. Josefino Cenizal, Juan Silos Jr. and Constancio de Guzman are but a few of the Filipino songwriters whose eloquence of feeling is manifested in the songs you are about to hear in this collection.
Indeed this album is something worthwhile for we are sure your interest in the musical works of our featured composers will lead to a rediscovery of similar music now seemingly lost…but the impulse of melody and feeling from which it springs is still here with us, as this songs of the good old days are vividly brought back to us by the Lovers Trio.
