ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"L Subramaniam is the best this listener has heard." - The New York Times

"Violinist L Subramaniam proved to be a peerless virtuoso. Subramaniam’s poetic imagination formed inexhaustible permutations" - Los Angeles Times

L Subramaniam, India's foremost violinist, orchestral composer and creator of the Global Fusion concept, is perhaps the greatest representative of Indian classical music today. He has performed/recorded with some of the greatest musicians of all times including Yehudi Menuhin, Stephane Grappelli, Herbie Hancock, Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar, George Harrison and Stevie Wonder. He has written/performed orchestral compositions with the New York Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Orchestra Nationale du Lille, among others.

Music is a universal language and a person with an open mind can appreciate any form of music from any part of the world. Global Fusion brings together the five continents in five tracks.

Track 1
In Indian mythology, Hanuman was the monkey-god of the Ramayana. Jai Hanuman! is a very special composition featuring the Indonesian 'monkey chanters' alongside the Australian didjeridu and Indian percussion (vocal and instrumental). This songs takes you to the jungle and back.

Track 2
Lost Love is a very mystic, microtonal composition where the Japanese traditional koto blends very powerfully with the Indian violin. The koto is a very sensitive instrument with a beautiful tone and fits into the composition very well as both the composition and the instrument expresses very deep emotion.

Track 3
With the fiery Spanish Guitar, tight Indian percussion and Indian voice with Mrs. Kavita Krishnamurti as a special guest, Gypsy Trail is an upbeat piece which recalls the similarity in feeling and the Indian root of the gypsies.

Track 4
Blue Lotus is a very delicate comparison of two similar but very different instruments. Though not very far away geographically the style and ornamentation of Chinese music is very different from Indian. Both the Indian violin and the Chinese erhu are stringed instruments played with a bow but the flavour that each gives to the music is very different.

Track 5
This is an innocent piece with a strong underlying current of emotion. With vocalist Bindu Subramaniam as a featured soloist, Spanish guitar, Indian percussion and choir, Harmony of the Hearts brings us a universal message in a universal language.
