ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Yaxche Live” is an audio postcard, an evening captured with sparks and dynamic colors flying between this versatile, world infused artist and the vibrant community for whom she performed. You can hear the joy and excitement exuding from both Erika and the audience. This unique recording is a first for Erika Luckett: a live performance captured like a genie in a bottle. You can feel the sweat and hear the spontaneous spoken word poetry that hallmarks Erika’s live performance but which has never been commercially released. You can hear it now: new tracks (Sunflower, Cascada, I Hear You Call) as well as old favorites recorded with the distilled purity of voice and guitar. “Yaxche Live” is a study of intimate and high octane connection between artist and listener.

"Erika's music is challenging to capture----describing what happens during her transmission, would be like trying to explain the way the sunrise casts light across birds in flight. Her energetic exchange transcends the power of sound, and penetrates the heart like no other musician I have ever experienced" – Eileen Pedersen, Director Yaxche School

The recording of this album reflects Erika’s generous heart and commitment to community. It is the product of a benefit concert for the Yaxche School in Taos, NM. In addition to having the proceeds of the concert benefit the school’s scholarship fund, CD sales will help provide opportunities for Hispanic and Native American students in Northern New Mexico. Buy the music and help support this outstanding school.

Here is a quote from Erika included in the liner notes: “I had the wonderful opportunity of discovering the Yaxche Learning Center on October 20, 2005 when I performed a benefit concert for their Hispanic Scholarship Fund. I was so inspired by the school and its guiding principles that I decided to record the evening’s show. This CD captures the energy of the discovery. It’s a musical photograph of a moment, a flow of inspiration driven by the dialogue of live performance, of the interaction between me and this remarkable community. The Yaxche Learning Center sparks creativity, curiosity, critical thinking and fosters the notions that community, understanding of our interconnectedness, and wisdom that grows from both heart and mind are all fundamental parts of educating our children. I was inspired by what they are doing and am excited to share this joy and inspiration with you. Additionally, all the artwork on this CD was created by students at Yaxche. It’s a wonderful thing to feel our creative expression intertwined. You can find out more about this vibrant school at www.Yaxche.org.”

A last note about this CD…digital downloads are great, but you’ll miss out on the stunning artwork and packaging that was created by the students at the school. Striking images, colors and design make this CD one you’ll want to hold and look at…as well as listen to, again and again.

“If you are familiar with Erika’s music, this album is like coming home….. If you have never heard her before---WATCH OUT!! You might just fall in love.”

long live "Yaxch Live"!
I've had the pleasure of hearing Erika's live shows several times, and while I love her other recordings (autographed after her performances!), I have yet to feel the uniqueness her interaction with the audience captured so clearly. There's a power in how she expresses her music. It's hard to describe if you haven't experienced it in person. What I love about "Yaxche Live" is that I feel that magic, that power. It takes me back to the live concerts I have been able to see and if I close my eyes, I feel like she's right in my living room singing directly and only to me. What a gift! Thank you, Erika, for offering us this treasure!

next best thing to being there
A chance to see Erika live should not be missed-her music tells elegant and insightful stories-but the style and the tales are part of the picture. This CD conveys some of that electricity and intimacy of those performances

Raw energy with global spirit-passion with a purpose
Yaxche Live! is synergetic poetry between Erika and her audience. An auditory feast that exposes Luckett's unique ability to move intimately between guitar, audience, and creative genius. Erika's songwriting talent shines through in new tracks Sunflower and I Hear you Call. I am so glad, Erika's finally recorded a live performance-- now the inter-connective heart of her presence blesses the everyday.

The Cat's Meow.
I have been waiting a long time for Erika Luckett to offer a cd like "Yaxche Live!" I received it in the mail, put it into the cd player in my car, and there it remains, in constant, perpetual play. I never get tired of it, because I discover new little details every time I hear it.

Anyone who has experienced an Erika Luckett performance knows all about her technical mastery, her sultry, buttery voice, her heart wrenching (or heart lifting) way to meld lyrics and melody and rhythm together - her beautiful spirit.

The thing with a live performance, though, is that it flies by in real time (always, always, too quickly)...so, while we get a good sense of her musicianship, it's a moment in time that passes, leaving only a great feeling and fond memory of that shared experience.

Well, with this live recording, I am awestruck all over again - because I can play and replay...and am just bowled over by her crisply flawless guitar work. I find myself hitting "rewind", asking, "Did she just do xyz?" - to find that she sure enough did. It's like experiencing her work through a whole new lens. Dang - she is just amazing.

I read the other reviews here, and hear the hooting and hollering in between tracks on this cd, and am reminded that I'm in good company when I say "You just have to experience Erika live...there's no way to describe her that does her justice."

I've introduced several friends and family members to her work by bringing them to live performances - but that's not always easy when hundreds of miles separate us from our loved ones. And now, for those cases where we can't enjoy a performance together....we have Yaxche Live.

And...if all that weren't enough...it's a generous benefit cd, too. Win-win-win...go out and buy this cd!
