ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Christmas and New Year are painted in chiaroscuro. The sparkle of stars against the dark sky. A chill that gilds the edge of a fire’s warm halo. Our hyper-reflective state sloshes from gratitude in fond company to lonely despair and self-criticism. This album, in two halves, is an attempt to speak to that feeling. Let this music be a guiding light. Let it shiver with you in your darkness, and lead you home to a warm, safe, and joyful place."

Special Thanks:
To my Family, especially my Mum, without whom Christmas and life in general would not be worth a figgy pudding.
To all my wonderful, supportive friends - both on the record & off. For hugs, help, & occasional hysterics.
To Hope.
To Him.

Lucy Lockwood is a vibrant and exuberant Jazz and Blues vocalist.
Working mainly with Standards, Traditional Jazz and the American Songbook - Lucy has a special focus on scat vocal improvisation, with an attack that doesn't shy into a breathy corner. Lucy is inspired by those who work with their voice as instrument - and takes cues from male blues shouters and horn instrumentalists as much as the smooth tones of the female leading lights . A full pallette of sound that braves the risk of promoting full expression over twee standards of 'pretty' sound.

The aim is always to do justice to old classics, while keeping them fresh and infusing them with new ideas and interpretations.
Modern songs get the vintage treatment and often end up in a wildly different genre.

Typical performances include numbers by Hoagy Carmichael, Nina Simone, Cole Porter, Howlin' Wolf, Willy Dixon, Peggy Lee, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and many others . Modern classics with a twist have included lounge versions of 'Run to the Hills' by Iron Maiden, Swinging 'All About the Bass' by Meghan Trainor and 'Rooster' by Alice in Chains as a Ballad! Lucy even does mashups in her more playful (read cheesy!) moments, such as 'Jump Around Foxy' combining House of Pain and Jimi Hendrix, and 'Whole Lotta Cochise" - weaving Audioslave into Led Zeppelin via a broken down fair-ground oom-pa-pa waltz!
