Album Notes
The Luddites

Formed: 1992

The Luddites are an 11-piece acoustic band, equipped with harmonica, guitars, congas, lots of voices, and a sassy horn section.
The Luddite sound is a warm and Bohemian mix of rock, swing and folk styles. The Luddite show is rock, but reminiscently cabaret: sweaty, sexy, and real big fun.

The Luddites

Named after the historical rebels, who smashed machines during the Industrial Revolution, this 11-piece, acoustic band is well known in Detroit for their uninhibited performances. Comprised of drums, congas, guitars, a big Maruichi bass, harmonica, mandolin, accordion, four horns, and lots and lots of voices, the Luddites' sound is warm, swingy, with a touch of cabaret raunch and sex appeal. From hot jazz to rock, the Luddites' music is original. As one guy put it, after his first experience with the Luddites, "You guys are like Gypsies on Broadway!"

Recipients of seven music awards from the Detroit Music Awards, which are held every year at The State Theatre in Detroit:
1997 Best Folk Band
1998 Best Instrumentalist: the Luddites' percussionist
1999 Best Acoustic Recording
1999 Best Folk Band
