Cry for My Country

by Lugh Damen

A tribute to soldiers past and present whose courage and tenacity stand as a reminder that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. To the women who patched up the wounded, nursed them back to health and in some cases died beside them...Lest We Forget.

Album Notes
Lugh Damen is a gifted singer/song-writer and multi-instrumentalist who embraces a wide range of styles from classical to blues to rock and folk.

Moreover he has the rare ability to bring all of these together seamlessly to create his own unique sound. His penetrating lyrics and haunting melodies combine to engage the listener emotionally as well as appealing to their sense of humour.

Lugh's second album, “Cry For My Country” (for which no sense of humour is required).

It is a tribute to the casualties of war, from World War I up until the present day. The album was inspired after Lugh was asked to perform two of his songs with the local high school girls’ vocal ensemble on ANZAC day for the last two years running.

Recognising Lugh’s unique talent, the event organisers asked if he would write a song especially for the centenary of ANZAC. Lugh readily agreed and the idea grew into this commemorative CD.

“Cry For My Country” features such stirring ballads as;

“The Cold Light Of Dawn“, written especially to commemorate the centenary of the Gallipoli landing;

‘And on that bare and barren shore, brothers in arms they boldly stood
And they claimed our right to freedom, and they paid for it with blood’

“To My Fellow Man“, which honours the courage and sacrifice of the modern soldier;

‘I will face the enemy tho’ they cut me to the bone
And I’ll protect your family like they were my very own
We’ll see our children living free in a better world than we have known
For I walk with angels’

“Home From The War“, a commentary on the attitudes and prejudice that confronted the Vietnam Veterans upon their return to Australia.

‘When at last I came home with what remained of my brigade
No fane-fare awaited us, no ticket-tape parade
And all those singing “peace and love”, ten long years before
Had little left for us when we returned home from the war.’

This fine collection of original songs is sure to tug at the heart strings and even bring an occasional tear to the eye

but most importantly it keeps alive the memory of those who sacrificed so much for our sakes…
