Album Notes
‘I’m enthusiastic with everything because my mind travels around multiple places without stopping once’

He still remembers… He was born on June 15th, 1978 -after 24 hours of labour!- in the old Saint Michel’s Clinic, in Lisbon.

‘I’m the consequence of the new Europe and the new era of divorce’, he says, to explain that he is a son of two parents from different countries in the old continent (Spain and Portugal) who got divorced in 1985. That was when (in that breaking and key moment of his life) the little ‘Pintainho’ or ‘Luisão’, his mother –Esther- and his beloved sister –Margarida (aka) Fofi- arrived in the Castilian capital Ávila and set their roots. They left back the ‘Pai’ (father), the grandparents, the Algarve’s summer house, and a very special friend, Nuno Lopes, inseparable and unforgettable mate in his childhood. A childhood, says the artist, ‘marked with a special nostalgia’, and also marked by a ‘traumatic’ school beginning.

A lot of water ran under the bridge since he was a child, hidden behind big prescription glasses (more to do with an eighties computers engineer than with himself). He was gifted with a huge imagination since he was a small boy and started to let his mind fly away listening to a Portuguese female musician and also while watching some video clips, like one by Duran Duran, which had visual effects that captured his attention very deeply.

Talkative, bilingual, cinephile, music lover and vitalist, ironic, pigheaded, radio contributor, fond of a couple of fried eggs with French fries (and also a lover of Oporto wine), he wrote a book, a short-movie-script, and he is preparing a couple of new projects.

He studied Business for two years in Salamanca and after quitting he got back to classroom in Ávila to start a new course, Computers, but the death of his mother –a woman that marked him since the beginning-, in October 2003, forced him to dedicate exclusively to his mother’s business, a tobacconists. Nevertheless, whenever he’s able to, he gathers with his family and friends, of whom he’s very fond of.

He hates those he calls ‘the voluntarily uncultured’, and also hates violence, aggression and the lack of respect to others. He seems not to stop but he knows that he is not constant in many things. Self-taught person in the music subject (he hasn’t had the opportunity to learn music), he’s able to enjoy classical geniuses, such as Bach while at the same time he also enjoys Nina Simone, Billie Holiday , Leslie Feist, Elvis, Marley or even Metallica.

But if there’s someone to whom he is really devoted to, that one is João Gilberto, as well as other music composers of the so-called MPB (Brazilian Popular Music): Vinicius de Morais, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Caetano Veloso… Like them –his musical references- Luisão surprises with his magic and involving voice, the control of the Portuguese language, and also by having a very personal style. While in concert, his best companion is his guitar, which he compares to his latest love affairs, with the sole difference that she’ll never let him down.

On a summer Thursday, July 28th 2005, he played his first live performance in front of a live audience in a packed Adarve (a pub in the city of the famous walls, Ávila), and although he was very nervous at first, just shortly after his friends and family -as well as other good music lovers standing there- supported him and provided him the moral strength he needed, it all went just great. Needless is to say that it was a huge success in the end of the evening.

Do not forget his name, this can be the starting point of a great story, and no matter where Luisão goes, he will not disappoint. Of that you can be sure.

Why should you listen to this CD??
I discovered Luisão by chance, and since the first note I heard (still on my computer), I just wanted to hear more, for the feeling that Luisão inputs to these poems is such, that it makes you feel them like a review of your own life.
Nowadays this CD keeps me company wherever I go, for it is the nº 1 CD on my car CD Stereo system, and while listening to these songs, I know I can do one thing:
Smile of happiness, just because the music sounds so good, so calm, so quiet, and at the same time so vibrant, so loud, so clear, so real... And isn't that what makes us feel good?!

I'm waiting for more!
