ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Luminous Voices is thrilled to be able to announce the release of our first CD! This recording was supported, in part, through a grant from the Rozsa Foundation last year. Luminous Voices took the opportunity to record its rehearsals and performance of Mendelssohn's Te Deum in June 2014 featuring Neil Cockburn on organ. This piece is less known than many of Mendelssohn's works but deserves performing. It requires fine ensemble work but also exceptional soloists, so many talented singers in Luminous Voices are featured. While Mendelssohn's Te Deum is the title track of the recording, also included is his famous unaccompanied motet, "Denn Er Hat Seinen Engel Befohlen Uber Dich" as well as two Schubert part songs for both women's voices and men's voices with mezzo-soprano soloist Patricia Thompson and Cheryl Emery on piano. Despite being close peers, Schubert's music was an infuence on Mendelssohn. These pieces also provide some contrast to the other works on the CD and were part of a larger program of music that included works by Bach & Handel.
