ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
An album of folk-jazz love songs with strings subtly weaved throughout. Lydia Joy's lyrics have been described as hopeful yet quiet, vulnerable, and sometimes melancholy. Some tracks harken back to very early jazz and blues. This album has an "Unplugged", accoustic, and raw sound.

Lyrics

A Flame, A Flower

A flame, a flower, a butterfly, a burn, a thorn, a sting.
I know I must not hold you too tight for fear of smothering.

You know you can hurt me too, so what can we do,
except make our way through the day staying carefully apart.

A spirited dance none the less we perform
Drawn together now and forever but safer apart.

Am I moth and you the flame, or are we both the same
Maybe we're just playing our part in mother natures game

Drawn together now and forever but never too near.
Keep away don't come to close not then not now not here.

I say I'm scared, afraid of you but that's only mostly true,
But I suspect that for you, I am scary too.

A spirited dance none the less we perform,
drawn together now and forever but safer apart

A flame, a flower, a butterfly, a burn, a thorn, a sting
I know I must not hold you too tight for fear of somthering.
Doo, doo, doo etc.

Do It For Love

We are here, we are home, I'm a rock, I'm a standing stone,
whenever ya feel alone.

If you ever get tired of flyin' we'll hold you if your cryin'
with arms outstretched, we'll catch you if you fall

We are here, We are home,
We are holding it down for when you come around
'Cause he's holding his end and I'm holding mine
becoming like trees, growing roots and rings,
that measure the tests of time

We are here, we are home,
so you never have to feel alone

But you can't stay here forever,
Someday we'll move on, you gotta take you place some day
You've got to carry on

But until then we're standing strong
Yeah were holding it down, for when you come around

Life Roulette

She's not sad as she seems, she just hasn't slept since she was nineteen.
We invite you to our ultimate betting game of Life Roulette
You might find on the other side exquisite torture and much more sir

They say misery loves company, but that's not it
you could win or you could lose, your life, your will, you cannot choose
The rush comes from the highest stake
Don't be afraid. It's just a game

The say hit me baby one more time
I'm feelin' lucky I can turn on a dime

Dig you toes deep in the muck
I challenge you, it takes some pluck

Take a Bullet

I took a bullet for my sister
Stood in front of a loaded gun
Cause that man he'd bite the wings off an angel
Just to have a little fun

'Cause that man, he is a preditor
He doesn't care how many hearts he breaks
'Cause that man, he is huntin' her, he's gonna find her anyways

You know the devil will find the innocent just as well as a sinner man
I took a bullet for my sister, I'll do everything I can

But you can't take a bullet by stealin' another woman's man

Elegiophlia

They built skyscrapers in my home town, they got me walkin' circles in the round-abouts.
But the shadows are long and the wind's grown so strong, in the heart of my hometown

But the view from above, it doesn't show anyone, from the heart of my home town

Some things can last in memories past, like the love of my hometown

The ferris wheel and the old book store. We cannot visit them anymore.
But i some how believed that the old cafe would always stay the same.

But the view from above doesn't show anyone, from the heart of my hometown

Some things can last, in memories past, like the love of my home town

Take a walk on the riverside, take it nice and slow
You'll hear the calls of the swallows and the crows
In the heart of my home town

But the view from above, it doesnt show anyone, from the hear of my home town

Some things can last, in memories past, like the love of my home town
