ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Rocking Chair

Written through the eyes of a true maritime woman, Lynnea Rose has crafted yet another collection of fine and familiar songs and stories. Sinister sea shanties, folk ballads, Balkan swing and modern bluegrass are among the themes explored on ‘Rocking Chair’. The album veers and dips along the spectrum of traditional musical territory but maintains a consistent air of authenticity and individuality from start to finish. Atop the chaos of what sounds like a group of strangely talented musical animals set free to roam, Lynnea Rose weaves together a colourful and cohesive tapestry and sets the listener at ease with her sweet voice and graceful lyrical style.

Rose’s sophomore album is not merely a collection of solid, trad infused folk songs, ‘Rocking Chair’ is a musical collaboration with some of the country's finest and freakiest musicians and a giant step in a new direction. Rose, along with producer Tom Terrell, have assembled a bizarre and brilliant group of musicians and clearly given them free reign. The result is a diverse album; obviously fronted and held together by the unmistakeable east coast country girl and granddaughter of a fisherman but infused with bona fide bluegrass, jazz manouche, country & folk sounds and sensibilities.

A maritimer through and through, Lynnea Rose was born in Nova Scotia and raised by Nova Scotian’s who were born and raised in Nova Scotia - you get the point. Rose’s songs reminisce about long winters and hard times both past and present and explore the paradox of an eighth generation maritimer; The familiarity of a longstanding traditional and cultural belonging and a desire for change.

Recorded at Coda Pop Studios in and mixed at The Sonic Temple, ’Rocking Chair’ features Violinist Donald Maclennan (Ben Caplan, The Modern Grass), Ryan Dillman & Waylon Robicheau of Shadow River on Banjo and Mandolin, Asa Brosius (Rose Cousins, Dark for Dark) on Pedal Steel and Dobro, Steve MacNeil (EB Anderson and The Resolutes) on Upright Bass and Tom Terrell (The Modern Grass) on Drums & Guitars. The album was produced by award winning producer and songwriter Tom Terrell and engineered by one of the countries most seasoned engineers, Karl Falkenham.
