Lynn Starr Live! It's Only Love

by Lynn Starr

"Rarely has a performer been so prophetically named. Starr's act is heavily blues influenced." "Soft seductive handling of a ballad. Ms. Starr knows very well how to handle an up-tempo or country sounding melody. Lynn Starr is one hell of an entertainer."

Album Notes
A performer who has gone from the corporate world to the world of Cabaret....clubs, pubs & resorts.

Born in Brooklyn, raised in New Rochelle, New York, Lynn Starr (yes, that's her real name) headed out into the world with a degree in Business Administration. After climbing the proverbial corporate ladder Lynn found she was not fulfilled. So, she gave her computer the "boot" and "hitched a ride" to Nashville, determined to fulfill her dream of becoming a professional singer.

Within five years, Lynn had done television, demo work, studio work, voice-overs and a Debut CD, "Lynn Starr Live! It's Only Love," with noted pianist Frank Owens. It was time to return to her native New York. Once home, she performed at major NYC Cabaret Clubs as well as The Catskill Resorts. The Poconos, Atlantic City and Florida. She has worked with several "name" acts, such as Alan King, Pat Cooper and Robert Klein, among others, and continues to do studio work.

Lynn's Act, which is a culmination of all the above experiences, is unique in as much as it can be tailor-made for any particular audience, drawing from country, jazz, blues and conventional standards. Now when Lynn reboots her computer it's to add another night club to her roster. She brings with her, on stage, a wonderful sense of humor as well as a sense of who she is and never takes herself too seriously. She doesn't mind singing "Nine To Five" but no longer is a part of that world. It comes across the footlights.

Lynn Starr is a unique singer. She has a Nashville intonation in her voice yet she is not singing Country Music.

”She is a song stylist who is able to get into different moods of music and understands the lyrics, as written. For example: Her BLUES moments, "Women Be Wise" and” Good Morning Heartache" get you in "the gut". While the tribute to her Dad "The Greatest Man”, made famous by Reba McEntire, is warm and loving.

She also turns those moods around beautifully and can be funny, funny, funny with "Nobody Does Like Me" and "Everybody Says Don't". I Say DO!

I think that you'll find Lynn's voice to be unique: an unmistakable sound.
Live recording is, for me, one of the most exciting facets of our business. Working with Lynn and the caliber of musicians such as Fransisco Centeno and David Silliman really keeps you on your toes.

Lynn allowed me to go beyond the role of musical director. I became part of the act as you can hear, and I hope that you'll find that the banter that goes on between us is refreshing and not intrusive. It was spontaneous, and that's what live recording is all about.

I think that you'll find Lynn's voice to be unique: an unmistakable sound. Lynn pulls vowels out of the words, coaxed consonsants and assures us from the very first track that "You've Got To Know How." And with the variety of material included on this CD...Lynn certainly does.

Frank Owens,
Musical Director

Lynn Starr is all that her name implicates.
Lynn Starr is all that her name implicates. With a voice that reminds you a lot of some of the great female singers of the Rock n’ Roll 50’s, she is entertainment. Every once in awhile I would close my eyes and images of Theresa Brewer, Jo Ann Campbell & Timi Yuro would pop into mind. Her down and dirty, hell raisin’ voice brings you into the song and closer to the singer. Between her ballads, jazzy and up-tempo songs, she is a master of her material. I particularly enjoyed her versions of Morrison’s “It’s Only Love,” and Neville’s “It’s Raining,”

She has a cunning way of wrapping you around her finger with her soft seductive handling of a ballad. But it’s not just her ballads; Ms. Starr knows very well how to handle an up-tempo or country sounding melody. I also liked her version of “You Got To Know How” by S. Wallace and LaBostries’ “Husbands.” Four branches Off The Ol' Tree for this delightful and entertaining singer.

This rising talent has got a great set of pipes...
With more than just a little bit country, this bluesy belter has a terrific voice. With music direction by Frank Owens, Starr digs deep into gutsy torchers.

This rising talent has got a great set of pipes. She’s intelligent and totally likable. Lynn Starr is definitely someone to watch.
