ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In his review of Lyraka Volume 1, famous Rock critic Martin Popoff calls Lyraka "the next Led Zeppelin", and once you've checked out this progressive hard rock/heavy metal masterpiece, you'll be inclined to agree. Lyraka Volume 1 features six songs with vocal performances by Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Alcatrazz), Tommy Heart (Uli Jon Roth, Fair Warning), and Veronica Freeman (Benedictum). Also involved are Jeff Pilson (Dio, Dokken, Foreigner) and Tim Luce (Alcatrazz), as well as Vermont's own, Andre Maquera (8084). The CD features cover art by world renown fantasy artist, Ken Kelly (Kiss "Destroyer", "Rainbow Rising", and Manowar).

The composer and lead guitar player, Andy DiGelsomina, announced "The Lyraka music is inspired by Richard Wagner, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, and Black Sabbath."

In the tradition of Richard Wagner's Ring Des Nibelungen, Lyraka's allegorical concept is presented in a musico-literary fashion. The story behind this masterpiece is actually a finished movie script written by screenwriter and mermaid model, Jasmine Lyraka. She tells the tale of Neires, a headstrong metalhead, whom uncovers an enchanted electric guitar and sets off to find the mermaid in his dreams.

The entire Lyraka project was born from the creative ideas of Jasmine and Andy. According to DiGelsomina, "The working relationship I have with Jasmine is like that of that composer Richard Strauss and his librettist, Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Only, Jasmine has a screenplay instead of a libretto; or, one could say that I make a libretto out of the screenplay. The lyrics I extract from the ideas and plots in Jasmine's screenplay are influenced by the works of Nietzsche, Hegel, Langston Hughes, and Carl Jung. Like Richard Wagner, this work boasts musical motifs, intertwined throughout, that reinforce the themes of the work as a whole.

This Rock opera provides the focused listener with the opportunity to learn something about his or herself and others, which to me is the common denominator in any great work of art. You can customize the broad archetypes present in the work to your own, unique and amazing life."
