Album Notes

Conjunto Macuilxochitl takes its name from the Aztec deity of dance and music. Literally translated, Macuilxochitl means, "five-flower/cinco-flor." The young group Macuilxochitl is a family group consisting of five Herrera brothers and their younger sister. The group plays various styles of traditional Mexican music including huasteco, jarocho, and norteno. The group has played at various venues throughout the southwestern United States as well as Mexico. They have pleasantly entertained many audiences at schools, colleges, universities, and concert halls. They have received high accolades from audiences as well as music critics. They have made various musical appearances on television shows including "Despierta America." Their most enjoyable performances have been at the Annual Encuentro de Huapangueros in Amatlan, Veracruz, Mexico where they earned the respect and admiration of a critical audience and master musicians of this musical genre. Conjunto Macuilxochitl captures with remarkable authenticity all of the musical styles that make up these traditional styles of Mexican music. They play with remarkable composure and maturity far beyond their youthful age. They perform with an aggressive and energetic style that is both passionate and exhilarating. They remain truly authentic in their interpretation of these marvelous traditional musical genres.
The three eldest brothers of the group Jorge Andres, Luis Albino, and Miguel Antonio are all students at UCLA. Juan Pablo and Jose Marcelino are both students at Fillmore High School. Rebeca Isabel is a student at Fillmore Middle School. The group has recorded three C.D.'s under the Sonbros label; Sones Huastecos con los Hermanos Herrera, De Corazon Huasteco, and Pasion Huasteca. Forthcoming are two additional CD's of Norteno music and Jarocho music.
