ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Formed by Wendy Wild and Dino Sorbello in 1982 when they met at Privates niteclub (NYC) where she was the MC and he was the busboy. A common interest in psychedelic music and mushrooms started them off writing songs and forming a band.
Early Mad Violets shows took place at loft parties and the infamous club known as The Dive where a whole new quasi-retro 60s garage and psychedelic music scene was forming. In a scene they shared with such local luminaries as The Fuzztones, the Vipers, The Outta Place, Tryfles, Secret Service, Mosquitos etc. they quickly distinguished themselves as one band that featured original material where most were content to play covers of obscure classics. For their fungicidally-inspired masterpiece 'Psilocybe', Wendy assumed the role of high priestess and handed out live mushroom communion to the faithfull lined up at the front of the stage.
After all these years and sifting thru old tapes, demos, studio recordings, gigs, rehearsals at last here are thr REAL Mad Violets with the REAL ORIGINAL LINE-UP!
All material here (aside from the three tracks released on compilations ) ALL TRACKS ARE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED.

Paul Lyons

An original pertinent homage to a phenomenal band
The early eighties gave birth to what might possibly be some of the most under rated rock ‘n roll. In many parts of the U.S. and beyond, various punk bands and rockabilly bands started to tweak their sounds and take inspirations from the garage bands of the late sixties. Voxx Guitars, Farfisa organs, Beatle-boots, and bowl haircuts gave us the sights and sounds that the infant MTV was unable to offer. Season Of The Mad Violets brings back those days.

The Mad Violets were born in lower Manhattan. When a vocalist from Pulsalama, Wendy Wild joined the band of her then husband Dino Sorbello. As the cuts on this CD illustrate, this band had mesmerizing vocals and radiant/psychedelic guitar licks. It would be difficult to find another band that was able to create audio image like these. They used a meek collection of keyboards and chimes to underscore Wild’s lyrics. The results will have you listening to these songs many times. The band and their lead vocalist were both with us for only a short time. Season Of The Mad Violets leaves us with thirteen all original cuts. It is emphatically a befitting tribute to Wendy and The Mad Violets.
