All That Matters: Lullabies and Lovesongs

by Mae Robertson

All That Matters is the 5th CD in my Lullaby & Lovesong Collection. When my children were babies I sang lullabies to them all the time. It helped to calm them - and me. Becoming a grandmother a few years ago gave me the opportunity to sing lullabies again

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“I haven’t made a lullaby recording since 2007,” says Robertson, “but I’m a song collector by nature and I’m especially drawn to sweet songs that soothe and inspire. Becoming a grandmother a few years ago gave me the welcome opportunity to sing lullabies again on a daily basis. Singing to my baby’s baby gave me a whole new perspective on everything. Everything that matters.”

“When my second grandchild was born, I found myself singing ‘What a Wonderful World’ to her in the hospital and I knew then that I wanted to put together a new lullaby collection that included songs that were resonating with me now - from the perspective of a grandmother.” The songs that were chosen for All That Matters continue to expand the genre of the lullaby and, as always, provide music that will please both parent and child -- and that both will enjoy listening to together.

Robertson’s interpretation gives new life to several masterpieces including Weiss & Thiele’s “What a Wonderful World,” and Mercer and Mancini’s “Moon River.” The more traditional lullabies simply glow with the warmth and beauty of Robertson's voice. Billboard magazine says: “Her dusky alto range is a true treat, and she has an understated yet memorable way with a lyric that renders anything she performs worth investigating.”

All That Matters is a collection of songs that are full of love -- songs that inspire and give comfort. “Sometimes it’s the parent who needs to be comforted and calmed,” says Robertson, “and I love choosing songs that will soothe the parent so that the baby can just follow along. New parents are often told how children grow up so quickly, and I know from my experience that it’s true. Many of the songs on All That Matters were chosen to remind parents that the time spent comforting their child is truly precious. Even when all you really want is for that baby to go to sleep -- take a deep breath and know that these are among life’s sweetest moments.”

All That Matters was engineered and co-produced by Grammy® award winner Bob Dawson at Bias Studios in Springfield, Virginia and features Jon Carroll (Mary Chapin Carpenter) on keyboards and harmony vocals, Steve Fidyk (Maureen McGovern, The Woody Herman Orchestra) on drums and Mae’s daughter Cally Robertson (Christopher Owens) on harmony vocals.

Over the years, some of the recordings from Robertson’s Lullaby & Lovesong Collection, which is based on the premise that music for children need not teach or preach, have been named Notable Recordings for Children by the American Library Association and have received many awards, including: Parents’ Choice Gold, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum, Parent’s Guide to Children’s Media Gold, NAPPA Gold (North American Parenting Publications), and Mom's Choice Award. The recordings have also been named "Best of the Year" by Child Magazine, New Age Journal, and Booklist.

Robertson says, “The music that children hear is very important and I am proud to be making music that the entire family can enjoy. I love it when my recordings are given as shower gifts or birth gifts. It’s wonderful to know that my music is spread by the birth of a child.”

Every album Robertson releases is a gem, but All That Matters has an even brighter shine. Her talents as a singer and an interpreter have deepened and the sensitive production quality provides a brilliant setting. Although All That Matters is a collection of lullabies, it's much more than that. You don't need to have young children to fall in love with this recording.
