Album Notes
Magevet is Yale University's premier a cappella group dedicated to singing Jewish, Hebrew, and Israeli music. Founded in 1993, we are known in Jewish communities around the world for our unusual, sometimes daring arrangements of traditional and modern melodies and our sweet blend of voices.

Magevet recordings provide an exciting and fresh taste of Jewish music spanning from Renaissance choral masterpieces to Yemenite and Yiddish folksongs to modern Israeli pop hits. Our listeners come away inspired by the sense of pride for our diverse heritage that we convey with each song we sing. Magevet is distinctive among Jewish a cappella groups for the diversity and musical sophistication of our repertoire.

Magevet's yearly tour schedule gives us the opportunity to take our excitement around the globe. We perform in the Northeast throughout the year, but during school breaks we share our unique sound with communities further from the Yale campus. Recent tours have included performances in London's Westminster Abbey and the world's largest freshwater aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Magevet means "towel" in Hebrew. While a number of scurrilous and interesting explanations have been offered for the origin of our name, please bear in mind that Magevet was conceived of in a sauna.

Magevet is a not-for-profit group. All proceeds from CD sales go towards subsidizing the group's activities

This is probably my favorite of the Magevet albums (yes, even more so than Ekh Hu Shar which I managed). Oseh Shalom and Yism'chu are songs I can listen to over and over again, the album is chock full of favorites from my own days.

The soprano section in particular is very strong on this album, the altos occasionally have blend issues but overall I very much enjoy this album.
