Album Notes
Miriama´s quest for music has brought her to five continents. Stints in India, West Africa, Europe and Mexico mixed with her lifelong love of good ‘ol RocknRoll, American style, have imbued her with her unique instrumental and vocal style. Her solo and group performances showcase her multi-instrumental talents on guitar, violin, and vocals. Sets borrow from a wide variety of musical styles and influences to guide listeners on a unique ride around the world. Original songs are mixed in with re-workings of traditional tunes and chants from many sources, interpretations and translations of the songs of songwriters met worldwide and new renditions of select covers and jazzy standards. Performing over the years solo and with various international permutations of her band, Mama Miriama has rocked festivals, clubs and theatres in USA, Europe, West Africa and Mexico.

In addition to her solo work, she has, for the past ten years worked as guitarist, violinist and singer with Tormenta Jobarteh´s world music ensemble, Jobarteh Kunda. She has also served as loyal sidewoman to Aruban great Wally Warning, playing in his Roots Band and his Gospel Trio. Tormenta Jobarteh and Wally Warning are both featured guests on her newly released CD, “Far and Wide”, a collection of travel and love songs.
The release coincided with the launch of a crowdfunding campaign to fund “The Groovy African Ladies Music School” (GALs).
Mama Miriama has run Rockschool programs in USA and for the past 6 years, in Germany. Now she is bringing her program to Gambia, West Africa, where she will establish a music school for girls and women at Fandema Women development Center in Tujereng. A long believer in the power of music to enact positive change in diverse communities, she was inspired to bring her program to girls and women in Africa after doing a volunteer guitar workshop at Fandema in 2013. She has modified her program specifically for the women at Fandema, many of whom have never gone to school at all. The modified program is entrepreneurial by design and will teach participating women from the ground up to learn about the many aspects of an independent music/ entertainment industry.

Over the course of her musical journey, Miriama has shared stage and bill with such notable artists as Jamaican Legend Jimmy Cliff, Manu Dibango, Phish (The Great Went), Joan Armatrading, Laura Love Band, Wally Warning, Jobarteh Kunda, RasDashaN, Maggi, Pierce and EJ, Hymn for Her, guitarist Soig Siberil, The Black Seeds, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Tikan Jah Fakoly, The Reggae Cowboys, Kraut Rock pioneers Guru Guru and Blues Legend John Mayall, among others.
