Album Notes
Manny Sousa was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and began playing the piano at an early age. In 1969 he became fascinated with the music of Elton John, which over the years has become a source of tremendous joy and inspiration and a live-long passion. Manny typically performs over 80 of Elton John’s songs but here he has selected 17 for you, from the 1969 Skyline Pigeon to Oceans Away from 2013.

Manny has performed in several venues including Patchuca in Lisbon, the Intermezzo in New York City’s Upper East Side and Bubala’s By The Bay in Provincetown, MA. He also has been invited to play at special events at the Plaza Hotel in New York, The Ritz Carlton and Hilton Towers in Chicago and the Palace of Seteais in Sintra, a luxury hotel near Lisbon.

These 17 pieces were recorded in 2015 at the studio of David Taylor in Los Angeles. This studio is just a few miles from Dodger Stadium where, 40 years ago, in October 1975, Elton John performed at two sold-out concerts in front of 55,000 fans. Manny watched a recording of the first of these shows on his family’s television in Lisbon and he fondly remembers each word used by the show’s announcer: “The gentleman you have been waiting for: The biggest, most colossal, gigantic, fantastic, Elton John!” How true!
