Album Notes
*WARNING: this is NOT a traditional blues work. Contains dangerous levels of funky, rockin' soul.

After considerable acclaim w/ his first solo CD, ( see RollingStone Review, Blues Revue Mag/ 2001, All Music Guide: Another Shade of Blue(s), and Bobby Manriquez/ Soundbytes ( at ) Bobby Manriquez has completed his second solo CD, "PRAYIN' the BLUES (blu funk)"

Humble thanks to the talented group of
artists whose support and taste helped
mold my project. It may be of interest to
know that:
Mike Stern's awesome and
nationally recognized style graced the bands of
Miles Davis, Jacco Pastorius and Blood, Sweat
and Tears. Gary Grainger was the "bomb" with
the bass on John Scofield's "Loud Jazz" CD.
Among Myles Mattison's 2003 tours were
Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Mariah
Carey, and the late Ray Charles. The Nighthawks would not be the
Nighthawks without the very distinguishable harp
playing of Mark Wenner. It would seem "Steady
Rollin" Bob Margolin's association with Muddy
Waters is a jacket he wears proudly, as do 1 with
players such as Chaka Khan's RUFUS bass-
backbone, Mr. "Tell Me Somethin' Good" himself,
Bobby Watson. Lastly, one of the nicest human
beings and one of the most talented, gifted
musicians I've had the privilege of knowing was
a player in Neil Young's band, as wet! as Beatle
Ringo Starr's band, and of course, a we)! known
personality in the super E-Street Band presently,
Nils Lofgren. Hopefully some of it will rub off on the rest of us;

Without further naming, there are no slouches among us :>)

Praying the Blues. Is a Five STAR Impression of this blues Man.
I've not stopped listening to Praying the blues.Bobby Manriquez is a guitar wizard. His friends only compliment his playing. Why is this boy not an international star when all his guests are.I want to see manriquez support Clapton in the UK.Somebody get it on.

First rate blues and so much more!
Bobby Manriquez is a singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist. Prayin' The Blues is Bobby's second solo release. It is a passionate twelve song plus bonus track collection of the blues and so much more. On his first CD, Manriquez handled the majority of the project, playing most of the instruments himself. On this occasion, he has invited a multitude of talented players including Nils Lofgren to contribute. This CD is an evolution of the blues. Traditional riffs are combined with funk, gospel and improvisation. Bobby's music has a spiritual message melding well with smoking leads and darker tones. Manriquez's arrangements are innovative starting from blues history and building on it to craft soulful songs that are fresh and modern. The entire CD is played with passion and precision and Manriquez is an expressive vocalist. I relished the emotion on 'Find That Love' and 'Grace' – the two opening tracks. 'Black and Blue' is a lively but bluesy track that features inspired guitar work and supporting instrumentation as does the cover of BB Kings 'Rock Me'. Prayin' The Blue brings new life to the blues with first rate musicianship and emotion!

Very impressive. Put together well.
When I heard Heart to Give I had to buy this CD. I guess I was expecting more blues stuff, but still enjoyed the diversity and musicianship. Looking forward to buying another.

BLUES REVUE reviews "Prayin' the Blues (blu funk)"
Looking for the ultimate in contemporary blues-influenced music? Check out
the second solo effort by master guitarist and soul-seeker Bobby Manriquez.
He¹s been tapped by Wilson Pickett and Nils Lofgren for their bands, and
many of the reasons why are in evidence on Prayin¹ the Blues (blu funk).
The disc is exploratory (dig “Black & Blue,” “Henpecked,” or
“FT3") but also touches on tradition, with stone shuffles (“Find That
Love”), trip-you-up funk (“Slinky”), and soul-deep ballads (“G-Blue”). Much
of the album is Manriquez alone, playing all the instruments, but the
contributions of sidemen and guests (Mark Wenner of the Nighthawks, Bob
Margolin, and Mike Stern) up the ante. This one will amaze !... How did he get
that tone on the live “Rock Me?”

How come the whole world doesn't know about this guy?!
I heard about Bobby Manriquez via BluesWax online magazine, in an interview with Bob Magolin (who incidentally plays 'Slide' on one of the tracks here).

I was really impressed by the interview, so I checked out Bobby's site, had a listen to some samples and was immediately 'hooked'.

Bobby's playing is absolutely stunning. I also like the variety of styles covered as well as the songs and the production. Highly recommended for anyone who likes superb, heartfelt guitar playing!!

Bobby rocks with his blues. His talent comes from his heart.
Bobby loves what he does and it shows. He sings from his heart, he plays from his soul. The guitar rifs are emotion filled and you will find yourself moving to the sounds of the blues.

Bobby's newest described by some very familiar sources
"Bobby Manriquez' latest CD, "Prayin' the Blues," is about an artist who has lived what he sings and plays about. The people who came on board to help bring that music to fruition are proof of his heart and soul in making great music. If music is a conversation, then Bobby Manriquez has created a conversation very worthy of sharing. Enjoy it. Share it with others you care about. It all comes from the heart and soul."
- Bill Payne, keyboards- LITTLE FEAT

"Bobby Manriquez ! How is it ? My best to you on your new CD "Prayin' the Blues," - VERY Original, GREAT Licks ! I hear Blues, Fusion, Avant-Garde.... all in the same breath ! ( Keep on Keepin On )"
- The "Godfather of Blues Guitar"- BOBBY PARKER

"The superb string-work of Manriquez is once again more-than-outstanding, which would include him among the best guitar-players of our time......... "FT3" and "Unhooked" stand up to the power of the music of Prince.........."Prayin' the Blues" is, to understate, a musical hit for people with open minds and ears."
- Dietmar Hoscher- CONCERTO Magazine, Austria

"Bobby's original take on arrangements and his flawless guitar work heighten the listeners' experience..................... "Prayin' the Blues" is one of those cd's you re-visit again and again because each time, you hear something new. It's refreshing in it's originality and bold in it's musicality.Perhaps what makes "Prayin' the Blues" so successful is Bobby's sanguine message of hope and faith that resonates throughout his lyrics and arrangements, as well as his willingness to push the boundaries of traditional blues toward an equally hopeful future...............Buy two copies, you'll want to turn on a friend."

"Another winner (in "Prayin' the Blues") from one of my favorite guitarists. Great CD! If Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughn had a baby, he'd be lucky to grow up to play as soulfully as Bobby. His writing, singing and playing has an original voice with old school soul. Well done my friend. ** To everyone: CHECK IT OUT!"
- E-Street Band's NILS LOFGREN

Bobby reviewed at Philly's biggest hub
Featuring appearances by musical giants like, Nils Lofgren, Bob Margolin, and Mark Wenner of the NightHawks - among others, Prayin' the Blues has something to offer everyone. From the mostly traditional sound of, 'Find that Love' to the gospel influenced, 'G-Blues' all the way to the experimental, 'FT-3', Bobby's original take on arrangements and his flawless guitar work heighten the listeners experience. His love of funk is evident throughout and listening to the entire cd, one can see the threads that tie blues and funk so closely together. Wenner's harp work on 'My Heart to Give' is spot-on and the result is one of the hardest, gut wrenching blues tunes released this year.
