Album Notes
it’s Not a Rumor:

"The Serenade & The Sermon is a double cd. It tells two different stories...

The Serenade is a story about a healthy love. This guy and this woman have been building their love on divine principles. They spend all their time building a strong foundation and don’t realize how inspiring, tall & beautiful their love has become. Daily they work to learn how to serve one another

The Sermon is a story about an unhealthy love. This guy and this woman are trying build their relationship based on past hurts, the idea of success and their insecurities. They want the image of an amazing relationship but hate the work of building their foundation. They replace God in each other’s live without seeing it. She loves to play the victim or to be in complete control in relationships and he loves “saving victims” and making them co-depend on him. It takes them a painful while but they start to see that what they have is not even love. It becomes clearer daily that they are both just working to save and fix each other instead of working on their own heart issues." -Marcell

This Baltimore native continues to distinguish himself as a writer, producer, singer and performer. Having penned over 700 songs in an eight-year period, being nominated for over 20 independent music awards and winning several of those coveted titles is impressive! Marcell has even shared the cover of a European magazine with Alicia Keys and Snoop Dog. Seeing Marcell as a solo artist can take sometime getting used to after almost a decade with "the Truth" (his former band) but when you hear his music, you realize he hasn't missed a step. He works as if he's just getting started.

Marcell has three previous albums, including two studio albums: Hopes Too High and Symbols. His music has also been the muse for an independent documentary film called You Saved Me. He's often been compared to Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway and Gerald Lavert, but his own distinct style always shines through.

Marcell has headlined in large arenas and community venues in virtually every major city in America, as well as gracing stages throughout Europe with sold-out performances. Marcell's music has an amazing ability to connect the sacred and secular in ways that just make sense for everyone who listens. Although he is only in his mid 30’s his music has audiences often wondering his age, his lyrics are timeless. He's known outside of Baltimore as the "Voice of Baltimore" but in his hometown and throughout he's simply known as "The Voice". As you hear his music it will quickly become clear why Marcell is the Voice!

I am consistently blown away by the level our intimacy, transparency, and honestly depth of Marcell's music. To find an artists of this generation that can write on this level of relevancy is beyond rare. His voice is flawless and we have come to expect that but I was sure from the last album he would run out of life and heart issues to write about and here we see he has surpassed himself yet again. I love the entire album but Baggage, Grow Old with Me, Abuse My Mind, Love vs Like, Communicate, All I Have is You, Exactly What I Need and Simply Live haunts me. There are easily 7 to 8 classics and gems here. Bravo!

Serious Journey
This album takes me so many places in my life. Some of the songs take me to some really dark times in my life and some take me to some of the best moments I have ever experienced. Marcell I'm proud to support your music not to mention I can sit hear for hours being covered by your voice. I love this man!

Layers... Two Thumbs Up!
This is such a beautiful CD!!! Kes & I have listened all weekend. It's the kind of music that relates to your life in the most intimate way. There is such depth, so many layers, your passion emanates from each word... Thank you!!

Pastor Anthony Edwards

I shy away from any kind of secular music but I have been following Marcell on social media. Something about you made me want to listen more and man this music surpasses genres. The church can listen to this and take away something, the secular cultures can take away so much and shoot even the non religious can be blessed by this. Your music has open my eyes that you don't have to be a "gospel artists" to actually speak the heart of God. Man my wife and I have been playing this music non stop all day. Be blessed my brother and I pray your music soars beyond what you imagined!

My Wife, My Daughter That’s All
I played “I Want His Babies” for my daughter and her friends last night. They are just starting high school and we laughed and discussed the song for almost an hour. Then I played “Communicate” “Grow Old With Me” “Unconditional Love” “Love vs Like” and “Teach Me” for my wife to name a few and we had a great heart to heart. Marcell, thank you for writing music that can actually benefit not just me but my family. You could be easily a mega star writing shallow music with your level of talent but you choose different. You truly have a rare blessing. Keep bringing us more we need it.

Brah my joints are I Want His Babies, Love vs Like, All I Have Is You, Now That It's Over, Baggage, Grow Old with Me and Slave Again. Finally a singer talking real, like For Real. This dude is legit!

Blessings Marcell!
I’m an independent artist here in Colorado and I started following you on Facebook. I instantly fell in love with your music. Honestly no one is doing what you are doing Marcell. You connect God and man seamlessly. I’m not religious but your music takes me to a beautiful place similar to Bob Marley’s music.

Rishard Hamilton

Too many songs for me but they are great songs. I hope he has more to say after this. This is a lot for any song writer. I write and would be surprised if he makes more music. But I have to say I am impressed with his singing and song writing ability. He is classic.

Marcell brother you have been and will forever be one of the greatest artists for steppers. Nothing will ever top Maybe I'm not the Man, Hopes Too High and Breathe Love but some of the cuts on this album feel real nice brother. I like Motives, You Bring Me Joy, Abuse My Mind, and Now That It's Over. Thanks for always giving us a little something to step to. Keep up the good work and when you coming to perform in South Carolina.

Where's the CD?
I wanted the hard copy cd not the download. I purchased the download but saw on twitter that I could get the actual hard copy album. I like this music but I want the full experience.
