ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Miraflores Music presents Marcia Miget (Mee-J) on saxophone and flute delivering a funky, smooth Jazz version of Otis Redding's 1968 hit 'Dock of the Bay' produced by Chris 'Big Dog' Davis. Musicians are Chris Davis on keyboard and drum programing and Chris Sholar on guitar. Cover art was designed by Djinn Carl Lewis at imajinnMEDIA.

Growing up in a family of musicians, Marcia Migét's musical heritage began performing extensively throughout the Midwest with her family. Her parents, Bud and Joan Migét, taught them religious and classical music along with jazz and blues. The 'Vaune Sisters' performed on piano, sax, drums and bass, as well as vocals, renditions of jazz and pop classics on television, radio, special events and musical clinics. From a very early age studying piano, saxophone and flute 'Mee-J's talent and commitment to music earned her numerous awards.

While attending Drake University, she performed with the 'Midwest Express', 'Dartanyan' and 'Migét-Migét', opening for musical icons like Kenny Loggins, Phoebe Snow, Grover Washington, Jr., Country Joe and the Fish, Luther Allison, and Sons of Champlin. She also performed with Rickie Lee Jones, 'Chuckie’s in Love' on the MTV video. Her music can also be heard on film segments of grizzley bears in the wild for 'Sesame Street 'and the PBS food network cooking show 'America's Home Cooking.'

A NEA 'Jazz Artists in Schools' recipient, Marcia traveled nationally with guitarist/singer Dartanyan Brown performing and developing curriculum using music to teach basic skills. A Member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and Director of Miraflores Academié since 1988, she composed and directed 'We Are The Children' which was selected for and performed at the Bay Area Music Awards by her Miraflores Children’s Choir. In 2009, for John Coltrane's birthday she was selected by MacArthur Fellow Dr. Anthony Brown to arrange Coltrane's 'After the Rain', utilizing Asian and African instrumentation then performed by the Dr. Brown's Asian American Orchestra.

Carlos Santana’s description of her seminal CD, 'Marcia Migét Discovery', is “ … her music reflects a strong, deep and honest commitment to life.”

Founder and Executive Director of Miraflores Academié for the last three decades, the list of graduates includes educators and performers in all genres. Her son is drummer/composer Jaimeo Brown Transcendence. She will be inducted into the Iowa Jazz Iowa Hall of Fame in October 2018.
