Album Notes
“Have You Ever Made Love to a Poet,” has been in development the past 4 years. I always wanted to do a CD solely based on relationships, the women I’ve been with, and my thoughts about the letters L, O, V, E.

I knew doing an album of this caliber, it could become repetitive, so I didn’t want to rush the process, and along with all my other CDs, there were poems that were cancelled out, but just a few. It was pretty clear what poems needed to go on this album, so in retrospect, it wasn’t a difficult process.

But, as always, for any CD, especially an album based on Love, the music and the mood and the poems had to be right. And in doing so, it was only after listening to the CD while editing, that I then realized, this is my most personal Album, even though I am closer drawn to other CDs that I have produced, I can see where this album may become a favorite for some people. People love gossip, and what more do they want to talk about, other than who you’ve had relations with.

So I’m not immune to the possibility of the questions that may come, you give people and inch, and they want to take a foot, and I’m laying out a little more than just a few inches. I’ve always stressed that poets should BE what they write, they should LIVE it, they need to BREATHE it, they must be their own poem, so in my case, if it has been written…than it has been lived. For instance, with the poem, ‘Valentine’s Day Shopping,’ at first, there were original lines that weren’t based on real women....but then, I wanted to stay true to my craft, so I went back and actually searched for memories I had forgotten or misplaced, and replaced the original lines with verse from true situations.

I know men sometimes have a habit of never revealing all and how they feel, even some of the skeleton bones in their closets, as I’m sure women do as well. But, ladies, please understand in my course of being truthful, I didn’t want to shy away from some of the bones in my closet, so some things may seem extreme…Hey, life has been nothing less then extreme for me. But do understand that this album is a representation of parts of my life…and we all should grow from our own experiences…I would like to think I’ve grown from mine.

I got to show Love to my homegirl, Chunkie, I loved doing the track with her, and the concept, she came with nothing less than what I expected! Much love to my close friend Gloria Few, for doing most of the adlibs for me, thank you Suga! And I got to give a BIG THANKS to Lizz Straight, I’m blessed to have her beautiful spirit, and voice on the CD. I came up with the concept, to do the CD as if you were listening to the radio, and the first person I thought of to assist me, was the person I got. Thank you, Star!

So Ladies, welcome to Marcel Radio…the Love Hour.
