ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Marc Moreland passed away in the early morning on Wednesday March 13th in Paris, France. Marc was deeply loved by his family, friends and fans and will be greatly missed.

Marc Moreland was the former guitarist and founder of Wall of Voodoo, which released 9 albums in a little over a decade, notably the hit single "Mexican Radio" in the mid-eighties, before disbanding around 1989. Since then Moreland had been working on various music projects, including his own Ensenada Joyride in Europe, and Department of Crooks, which released an album in the U.S. He had also been involved in film and had produced underground bands in the U.S. and Europe.

On March 5th, 2002, Marc released his debut solo album entitled Marc Moreland Mess "Take it to the Spotlight".

The album features Jean-Marc Butty (PJ Harvey, Jean-Louis Murat) on drums and percussion; John Parish (PJ Harvey, Eels, Dominic A.) on second counterpoint guitars, percussion, backing vocals, production, etc...; Joachim Barbier on bass; Lisa Dewey on backing vocals; and Marc Moreland on guitar, vocals, keyboards, bass, etc...

Why should you buy this CD?
Well...you could buy it because you loved Wall Of Voodoo.

You could buy it if, like me, you arrived shamefully late on the scene some 15 years after your last WOV purchase.

Or you could buy it because you're looking for something different to listen to.

My advice...just buy it because it's bloody brilliant.

MODERN MARK

Quirky goth rock coming from the sounds of an icon...
Quirky goth rock coming from the sounds of an icon. That icon is Marc of WALL OF VOODOO (“Mexican Radio” fame). As he sings with his laid-back tones and indifferent attitude, you can’t help but want to devour the pains he could be construing up in his mind. Listen to “Hey Lady” more than twice and it grows on you like a hair gone wild (my personal favorite). If this song were played more often on corporate radio, heads would turn to see what kind of new style Marc was trying to portray. “Bette Davis Eyes” is sung with that I-don’t-care-personality that Marc seems to portray as Lisa Dewey helps up-lift the song with her harmony vocals. The Johnny Cash cover, “I Walk The Line,” is what stood out from the rest of the album as the real sweet cookie. It just had “Marc” written all over it as Marc’s interest level of the song shows in his vocals as he takes it on with personal confidence. “Hayride” should not be missed as it showcases what brilliance Marc was up to as he dived into this project. “The End?” is sort of spooky as it plays on. You can’t help but wonder if he was thinking about his fated future or if the song was just coincidental. All in all I would just like to say that Marc’s end was really too early. He will be missed, but his music lives on in TAKE IT TO THE SPOTLIGHT…

A must-have for Wall of Voodoo fans
If you liked Wall of Voodoo or Stan Ridgway's solo stuff, you'll like this even more.
Too bad Marc's not still with us, I can scarcely imagine what could have been.
Wall of Voodoo had a sound like nobody else-and with the release of this and the Dept. of Crooks disc, it's easy to see where it came from!
I knew I'd like it after previewing the tracks-which is a great feature, BTW.
